Top quality prime - sharp edge to edge
Posted by LowLightFiend on July 29, 2010
I use this lens with a D700 for low-light situations. This is not actually a very useful focal length (for me, at least) on a full-frame body, however, I use it when I need the extra two stops that my 24-70mm does not give me. This lens has received excellent reviews and my own pictures confirm what I´ve read. The photographer who will most benefit from this lens, I think, is someone shooting with a cropped sensor Nikon. You then end up with a 75mm equivalent f/1.4 razor sharp portrait lens with very attractive bokeh.

Sharp focus.

Great lens. It does what I expect it to do. It has a sharp image.
I especially like to take pictures in the F8 range inorder to get everything in focus from say 8 feet to 30 feet. I can then pick and chose elements from the picture that I want to enlarge or be a new center of focus. In other words, I can get more pictures from just one photo.
I also like the results when using the F1.4 for available light. Once again, sharp focus. -

Standard lens state of the art

Used on a D90, this is the lens I choose to photograph my grandkids, who are always in motion. The autofocus is not instantaneous, but it is quick enough to keep up with them. I have read other reviewers criticisms, slow focus, plastic construction, but my in experience this lens is a good working lens that consistantly produces great results.

EXCELLENT Portrait lens
Posted by Jilly on July 29, 2010
As a portrait photographer, low light weddings, etc, this is an excellent lens. The images are amazing! Was a little hard getting used to me moving instead of zooming in or out, but the results are well worth a little more effort on my part! HIGHLY RECOMMEND this piece of glass!

Somewhat slow AF but a Fantastic lens nonetheless
Posted by dhlock on July 9, 2010
This is a fantastic lens, I was hoping for a bit quicker AF speed, it feels slower than my 50mm f/1.8, but the end result is great. Usably sharp wide open and extremely sharp by f/2.
A great lens
