AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR

I bought this lens, refurbished, to use with my new D610 as a general walk around lens. I have had it less than a month, but am very impressed with the sharpness and focusing speed. 24-85mm is the perfect range for street photography, candid portraits, and basic landscapes. I would recommend this lens for any photographer looking for a budget friendly walk around lens.

When I bought my D610 I decided to pick up this ´´kit´´ lens to accompany it, just until I can get spring for the 24-70 f/2.8. After shooting with it a couple of days (not long enough for a thorough test, granted), I have to say I´m impressed by the performance. Very quick focus, very sharp images, pleasant bokeh. The lens has a nice heft to it and feels really well made. For $500 I don´t see how you could go wrong. Highly recommended!

This lens closely approximates the popular 35-135mm zoom of the 80s and 90s on my D3200. Sharpness is consistent across the range and the colors are nice due to the use of ED glass.
My only complaint is that the zoom is a little stiff at the ends, but this is a minor thing.
I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a general purpose zoom for use on a DX format camera.

This lens was purchased with the purchase of a D600 SLR Body to mirror my favorite Nikor Travel VR DX 16mm-85mm Zoom used with my D7000, D7100, and D300s Nikon DSLR bodies. I personally use the DX 16mm-85mm and the D7000 and D7100 with battery-Grips as my favorite travel weight and sized choice. The FX 24mm-85mm while being of reasonable size, weight, and optical performance when used on the D600 purchased for low light, event/public affairs, and landscape usage satisifies the 24mm bottom end usage requirement for most subjects but is a bit short on the long end compared to the DX range on a D7000/D7100 APC sensor of 24mm-128mm. However, the preferable range of the Nikon 24mm-120mm VR lens is more expensive, heavier, and in optical performance not signicant enough to out way the performance balance, lighter weight, and cost value of the Nikor FX 24mm-85mm Zoom. I have purchased a Nikor 18mm-35mm 3.5/4.5, and a Nikor 70mm-200mm VR F4 to cover the bottom and top end ranges for use on the D600. There is a bit of over-lap but the even better optical performance of the 18mm-35mm and the 70mm-200mm make for a great balanced FX system with the additional use of a Nikor 50mm 1.8 G, a Nikor 20 F.2.8 prime, and for maritime photography a Nikor 70mm-300mm VR Zoom and a Nikor 80mm-400mm VR Zoom which on my D7000/D7100/D300s gives me a light weight travel 105mm-450mm, and a 120mm-600mm. My only issue is that I generally would not travel with both the D600 system and a D7000 due to the redundancy and extra weight of having to carry two medium zooms and two duplicate wide angle zooms. I still prefer using the DX 16mm-85mm, and the DX 10mm-24mm on the D7000/D7100 for travel over the D600 set-up at this time. The photo results of using the FX 24mm-85mm are very good considering the overall Nikon 2013 D600/24mm-85mm Rebate promotion and was a key incentive in purchasing the terrific Nikon D600. This made the 24mm-85mm VR lens a terrific functional value.

I bought this lens to use as a travel and walk around lens. I am not a pro but set high IQ standards for my hobby. I specialise in nature and wild life so I have the 70-200 f2.8 and 300 f2.8 as for travel on a recent trip to Europe I took this lens plus my 70- 300 VR as they are both light with my D700. The IQ on both is so good that I view my 24-70 f2.8 as access. It is heavy and with no VR. Great lens but will sell to use money to upgrade my D 700 in due time.

Good image quality, wide to medium zoom, with me on every trip.

I have used this lens on my D800 for 6 months. The lens is very sharp at 50mm stopped down to f/11 as the picture indicates. Also, I have had very sharp pictures at the wide end at f/11 and the long end at f/5.6.

Upgraded from a Canon T1i with a Sigma 10-20mm and Canon 28-135mm, all great products. The Nikon 24-85 blew me away. I was expecting a kit lens quality product and got much more. I´ve read a lot of reviews about the camera and this lens and got far more that I expected. I shoot a lot at the 24mm with f/8 for depth of field and get consistently sharp results across the entire frame without a tripod. Over the Christmas holidays also shot a lot of friends and family in-doors and out with equally great results.
If this is the kit lens quality I can´t wait to see what the pro line lenses will produce.
