Great lens
Posted by md_in_tn on July 29, 2010
Love this lens!!!! I keep this lens on one of my cameras at all times. Pictures are sharp and crisp, low aperture settings allow for great DOF and low light shooting. No complaints or regrets with this purchase.

Excellent lens, a quality product
Posted by Jack on July 29, 2010
This is my ´´go to´´ lens. I carry it on my camera at all times. Tack sharp edge to edge. Thank you Nikon.

A very good lens
Posted by Jack the Bear on July 29, 2010
Lens was purchased for ambient light photography.
And, it does a pretty good job.
BUT, this would have been a great lens had it had V.R.
Even with a monopod, I don´t get as sharp a photo with this one as I do with my 18 - 200 with V.R. in a very low light situation -

Best in Class standard lens
Posted by Hidson on July 29, 2010
This is a wonderful standard zoom for it´s low depth of field capabilities to sharpness and contrast that comes right out of every image. On the wide end shooting between F/2.8 and F/3.5 there is a 1/2 vignette around the edges with the D700 but that quickly disappears around F/4.0. Slight barrel distortions at around 24mm as well however; they are quite uniform and therefore easy to correct with software. The ´´sweet spot´´ seems to be between 35mm to 70mm around F/4.0 where it delivers perfect images each time.

The Sharpest 24-70 Lens in the Industry
Posted by yrsued on July 29, 2010
I have used lenses in this range from other Manufacturers and this lens is the sharpest lens I have ever used! I thought that the old Nikon 28-70 f2.8 was sharp, but this lens is much sharper than any other lens I have ever used.

Great all purpose lens

This lens lives on my D700 most of the time. Excellent sharpness from F4 up and above average bokea wide open.

Built like a tank and sharp.
Posted by LebronPhoto on July 29, 2010
I purchased this lens just about 6 months ago. The lens is heavy and built tough. It may seem large, but balances well with my D700/MBD-10 combination. AF is fast, smooth, quiet, and accurate. Image quality is comparable and sometimes better than many primes I´ve used.
I highly recommend this lens to anyone needing a sharp, solid performer. This lens is a must for event photographers using the FX format. -

Great as a Portrait lens
Posted by Suri Photography on July 29, 2010
I use this as a portrait lens and the sharpness of this lens is absolutely great. The range also give flexibility. I shoot a lot of Indian Classical Dance portraits and this lens works out great.

Very good but...
Posted by Brian on July 29, 2010
Overall an excellent lens, sharp with great bokeh, and fast focus. A real workhorse that I use from weddings to landscapes. But the zoom action/feel is not good. This is the second copy of this lens I´ve had. The first one was very gritty and stiff over about half its range right out of the box, so I exchanged it for another one. The second one although a bit stiff for my taste was at least even over the whole range, and it did loosen some after a while. Now after about a year of use it´s gotten really bad. Loose in some parts of its range, very tight in others, so it looks like I´ll need to send it in for repairs. Yes, they were both US spec lenses. I guess that for as much money as it cost I expected better. My Nikon 70-200mm VR f/2.8 is really good, and I have other 3rd party lenses that are just fine.
