My go to lens for landscapes
Posted by RabidBear on May 18, 2019
This lens is fast, sharp and light. Anytime, I´m hiking and might have a landscape to shoot, this lens is on the camera. I have used it all over the west to capture landscapes in all kinds of weather and conditions. Everything from alpine lakes, water falls, sweeping mountain scenes and astrophotography of the Milky Way, this lens is perfect and sharp corner to corner.

Wish I hadn´t waited. A sublime lens.
Posted by Sensh on March 13, 2017
I sweated for a while before buying this lens, because I was worried 20mm would be too limiting. Too wide or too this or too that, but... it isn´t. The 20mm 1.8 is now finding its way onto my D610 at almost every shoot, and the results are fantastic. Incredibly short focus distance allows almost macro-style use if you want, but it´s fantastic for architecture and real estate pics, landscapes, nighttime sky photographs, etc. I am mostly using it for automotive interiors and detail shots, because I photograph cars for a living, but this lens can do a heck of a lot of things well, and I find myself pushing it into new uses pretty regularly. Along with my 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8, this is of my three favorite lenses, and I can´t imagine living without it.
Wish I hadn´t waited so long to pull the trigger. -

Super Ultra Wide Lens
Posted by Nikon Mike on February 2, 2016
I´ve been involved in photography for over 55 years as an amateur, semi-pro and professional and have always used Nikon/Nikkor equipment. Now that I am retired and still enjoy taking photos using digital cameras (D610 and D7100) I decided to purchase the 20mm F1.8 ultra wide lens. I was concerned about the distortion and other idiosyncrasies that plague ultra-wide lenses. Well ... was I wrong to worry. This Nikkor lens is not perfect but it is close. It is super sharp and fast. The distortion is certainly manageable. Nikon has come a long way in designing their lenses. I highly recommend this lens. The only regret that I have is I took too long to buy it. Great value and great lens.

Auto Focus Issues Hindering Full Potential
Posted by Rockohaulic on January 14, 2015
This lens should make me so happy to have a D800 camera. The reviews say it is outstanding. The MTF chart says it´s sharp as a laser.
I am not seeing this. Apparently I am having the same auto focus issue as Seamistcd below. I would be curious if he resolved his issue. It looks like it is focusing behind. My son-in-law is a professional photographer, and he is going to help me conduct a focus test, and show me how to adjust the auto focus in the camera menu.
I am new to high dollar FX cameras and FX lenses. I have to be honest and say I am frustrated and don´t understand why the auto focus is not perfect for a $800 lens with a $3000 camera.
I hope we can fix it. -

AWESOME PRIME LENS!!
Posted by taBKing on January 12, 2015
I love the 20mm f1.8 lens. It´s sharp. The ultra-wide lens is perfect! I shot low light desert scenery as well as rows of brown-stones and city buildings in Chicago at night. The lens performed perfectly. The bokeh is perfect. I highly recommend this lens. I´m sorry I don´t have pictures to post right now.

Great performance, fun lens
Posted by albeans on November 25, 2014
I was excited enough by its announcement that I pre-ordered this lens. I have both the 28 mm and the 35 mm lenses in this f/1.8 series. I use them on my D800 and D600 with great success; the 20 mm is no exception. I find it to be quite sharp, with high resolution qualities. However, Rule #1 with any new lens on my camera is an auto fine tune adjustment - must do!! After that, the results are great. I´ve developed a quick, easy method to run the adjustment; only takes about 5 minutes, and no special equipment or kits..

NEW 20mm 1.8
Posted by Seamistcd on November 13, 2014
I bought this lens and was so excited to have one that would replace my 24mm 2.8. When I got it and took a few test pictures they were all out of focus just a little. Didn´t notice it much unless you looked close but it was there. I set the camera (D800e) up and ran some formal test shots and the focus issue was still there. I had to search on line but found where I can adjust the AF for the lens in the menu of the camera. After doing all this the pictures are much better but still not dead on. I´m not a pro photographer but I still like a prime lens BECAUSE it is crystal clear focus. I don´t feel I got it with this lens. I may play with the AF adjustment a little more before deciding to send it back to see if Nikon can fix this.
