Looking for an all in one this is it !!!
Posted by Lewy on August 15, 2014
I am a beginner photographer and I must say I am glad I saved up the extra to purchase this lens, If you are looking for an all in one take anywhere lens this is it. Nice and light with lots of zoom and still great quality. I have this one my D7100 and it takes great photo´s. If you are like me and currently surfing the web for hours on end looking for information on what lens to buy to get into a higher level of photography I will let you in on my 2 days worth of surfing and save you the effort.
Purchase this lens and a 35mm prime f1.8 and you have all you need with a d7100.
I know there will be some high end photographer that will disagree with this but if you are like me and this is a hobby not a business these 2 lenses will serve you well.
Hope this helps some frustrated and overwhelmed novices to make a decision on which lens they would like to purchase. -

Hard to believe but it´s true.

I traded in the prior 18-300 for this one. Imagine the creativity that comes from being able hand hold from 18 to 300 and get extremely sharp pictures at any focal length. Picture quality equals the venerable 18-200. Yet it weighs the same and barely extends further. At 300, the picture quality is outstanding (see the pictures). It also does spectacular Macro at up to 1/3 life size. This is the lens to own.

My wife and I just came back from a months vacation in the UK and took a newly acquired D7100 body a 35mm 1.8G and the new version 18-300mm 3.5~6.3 telephoto. In the whole month and in all situations both outside and inside this lens NEVER left the camera body! I never ran across a shooting situation that required me to change out to the 35mm. It works very well with the built in flash and should be fantastic with a speedlight. Very fast and accurate A.F., clarity, shapness etc. I can honestly say this is the travel lens I have ever owned!
Very highly recommended! -

Excellent lens for travel, nature, kids in motion and wildlife photography

This lens replaced and 18-200 Nikkor lens on a D5100. I am now using it on a D7100 and am very pleased with its performance during the first week of use. Focus is quick and accurate. No lens creep noted compared to the 18-200 zoom I have used in the past. No problems so far. Am looking forward to using it for more travel and nature photography.
Lens is more compact, easier to carry and easy to use. I am glad I bought it and would buy it again if necessary. Will carry a micro lens with it, and maybe a wide angle zoom on occasion. -

Love this lens!!

I debated back and forth about this lens. I actually bought the old 18-300 days before and ended up returning it for this one. In comparison, this one is as good and better in some cases for sharpness and clarity. Yes, low light can be an issue but it is a small one and one that can be compensated for in post processing. It´s weight is doable even carrying it around for a whole day I was not fatigued by it. Love the ability to get the whole shot and the close up with the same lens. I traded in the 55-300 as well. No longer need it as this lens is almost the same size as that one yet I get better photos and better range with this one. If you are wondering if it´s worth it... YES!! Would do this again in a heartbeat. Nikon got it right with this one!!

Very pleased!

I´m upgrading from a Tamron 18-200 (non VC) so this will be in comparison to that. I´m using it on a D300. The focus is much faster and very much quieter. So far the focus seems more accurate, too. Between that and the VR I´m getting many more keepers. I´ve never had VR before, so I´m still getting used to that. The only quibble I have is that the zoom is a little stiff and uneven in tension as you turn the ring. I´m hoping the stiffness means that it´s sealed better, but the unevenness is not good. Maybe it will get better with more use. To end on a good note, I´m sure I chose the best available super-zoom out there.
