This is the best cameria I have ever owned. Was shooting a Canon EOS 1D Mark III, then switched to the Nikon Z7 and Z6 a great combination for landscape and wild life. Received my Z9 two months ago, this cameria works great for both landscape and wildlife. There is nothin that I do not like about this cameria.
I absolutely love this camera. I shoot sports professionally and this is the best camera I've ever used. Nikon really solved their AF issues from the Z6/7 (which are hardware related, so sadly firmware updates won't fix those cameras) and it's so fun to shoot with using the 3D AF tracking. Also great for portrait and landscape stuff as well.
I hate that I'm so disappointed in a camera that is as good is the z9. In fact, it is almost perfect. After three photo trips and several thousand pictures, I can say that I'm taking some of my best pictures ever with this camera. The autofocus is magic!!! I cannot say enough about the way the camera will follow the subject and deliver precision focus almost every shot!! However it is heavy and all the lenses are heavy. I haven't weighed but I would venture that the weight is almost what the d4 was....and definitely heavier that my d850. Going mirrorless for most of us carries the promise of losing some weight in the heavy camera bag we tote. Don't buy the z9 if weight and size are one of your criteria. The z7ii is exactly what you need. It's a great little camera. Lenses are still big but the camera carries less weight and is smaller. I also love that Nikon got on the ball and delivered a whole line of amazing lenses, too. Overall, Nikon is an amazing company and has given me 25 years of photo excellence. My local camera store, Bedford, has a great connection with the Nikon people and always gets questions or problems resolved immediately .
I primarily take travel and family pictures. Excellent Camera.
I've been a nikon shooter for many years, and this is truly the best that nikon has offered ..Certainly a wise decision on my part. focusing system is very solid, have missed focused a few times, but nothing that couldnt be recovered.
Took away one star because of a feature I use almost always. I am a professional photographer and at present primarily photographing products for a retail/wholesale store. The feature I use extensively is the Shutter Lock and Aperture Lock. The problem I am having is anytime I switch Z mount lenses the Aperture Lock is deactivated and I have to remember to re-lock this setting. My D850 and D810 never had this problem. Also with F mount lenses the Aperture Lock does not function at all. I am hoping a firmware upgrade will be available to fix this issue. The Z mount lenses I use are the 50mm f/2.8 macro, the 105mm f/2.8 macro and the 24-70mm f/2.8.
Fantastic camera! My first mirrorless camera. Have been with Nikon digital since D200 and owned a lot of them! This one I purchased for Bird/Nature and landscape photogtpahy. however, am also using it for IR and macro work. Very happy with my camera!!!
Been buying NIKONs for over 20 years. My first one D100 then D2x, D3, D4, D5, D850, D6 and I have the Z9. The D6 was for sports and action and D850 for everything else. When Nikon anounced the D6 I was hopping that it would be the D5 and D850 combined but it wasn't. The Z9 is the combination of the D6 and D850 and I could not be happier. I have a second Z9 on order which will allow me to have my 24-70 on one camera my 70-200 on the other. The Z9 has a faster shutter than the D6 and the resolution of the D850. EVF has a learning curve but once you get it, it is incredible. You can display 4 different displays and you are able change them on the fly, the button can be reached with you right thumb and you can make each display display what you want to see in the EVF. With the fast memory card I have yet to fill the buffer. The rumor is that you fire at full speed (20 frames per second) for 50 seconds.Never shot video with a camera before and I was asked at the last minute if I could video my nephews wedding. Told my bephew I never shot video with the camera before but I went ahead and videoed the wedding and reception and the results were incredible.
I had the misfortune of falling into a creek. With the impact, the front end of my Tamron 150-600mm g2 broke. The Z9 and the lens were submerged under water for about 3 secs. When I pulled myself out of the water, the Lens and the camera were covered with muck. It was another 15 min walk back to the car to clean the equipment. Keeping my fingers crossed, switched on the camera....and it worked! Thank you Nikon for building such a Rugged Professional Camera!
