    Just: wow!!

    Posted by Z6fanboy on March 13, 2020

This thing is great! From the size and weight, to the tech inside, to the auto focus, to the eye detection, there is nothing I can complain about. I´m excited for the weather to break so I can get out and take more photos!!

Very good camera with some issues

Posted by MCarter on March 6, 2020

Well, firmware 3.0 was a nice update - suddenly my big monster 28-70 S-lens focuses well in video - not that I use video AF much, but usable AF is fantastic on a gimbal. IQ is good, and something about this camera - even straight off the card (without using an external recorder), green screen footage keys remarkably well with no edge artifacts. I just spent weeks keying 6K RED footage, and man, the Nikon 4K (and even 1080) keys clean and fast, even compressed from the card. My first day with this camera I shot an entire green screen video (link below) - I did a quick test in the morning and decided to go for it, glad I did.

My biggest issue with the camera right now is the inability to monitor 100fps and up via HDMI. My review will be declined if I mention competing cameras that have this ability, but it doesn´t seem to be a unique feature, and being unable to monitor high frame rates - esp. on a crane or rig - is really a big issue for me. PLEASE Nikon, find a workaround for this!!!

And one more feature I´d love to see is H265 recording. The bit rates possible with H265 can be double what they are with Nikon´s current compression. Many people don´t want to transcode, but it would be a great option to get the higher video frame rates up there.

    Getting better all the time

Posted by Camperjoe on March 6, 2020

The latest firmware update has made my Z6 much more useful. For most of the past year it has sat in its bag while its big brothers, D850, D750 and D500 got all the attention simply because last year the Z6 out of the box was awful at tracking a moving subject. Not so much any more. I believe my Z6 is going to see more and more action this year.
Icing on the cake would´ve been if the Z6 had been designed to accept a battery grip with controls like almost every DSLR Nikon has ever sold. With a functional battery grip for me the Z6 would´ve been a grand slam homerun. Now it´s at least a solid double every time. I knew there was no such animal when I bought my Z6 and thought I could get used to it. I´m not there yet.

    An evolving experience

    Posted by Tally1 on March 5, 2020

This is the finest camera I have owned. It´s a bit of a steep learning curve to take advantage of the camera´s many features. The automatic settings give point and shoot photographers like myself amazing advantages. I have not used the video features of the camera. My major disappointment is the WiiFi or Bluetooth concerning Nikon SnapBridge app. The camera does not respond nor functions well using SnapBridge with my iPhone, and with the iPad. I believe software for SnapBridge needs improvement. I expected the app. would allow me to control the camera remotely to take photos without risking camera movement from physically depressing the snap button on the camera. Really, a hand held remote to control the camera would be a welcome feature. .

    Love! my Z6

Posted by NikonAK on March 4, 2020

Kudos to Nikon for staying on top of keeping the Z6 firmware promptly updated. The new AF improvements are fantastic. The face/eye detect is a huge improvement and works great. I love everything about my Z6. it´s a little embarrassing but I´ve gone full-circle. I was a Nikon shooter for years, tried the Fuji system for a while and when the Z6 came out and I picked one up in a camera store, I fell in love with Nikon all over again. I´m loving my 24-70 f/4 and will be purchasing more Nikon Z ´´S´´ glass for sure. (hint Nikon: Love to see a 70-200 f/4 added to the lens road map some day.)

    Much appreciated update 3.0

Posted by Jeremy on March 3, 2020

As a lifelong pro photographer I´m very happy with the Z6 and Z7 for both my professional and personal work. The continuing firmware updates are very much appreciated. The latest update vastly improved AF performance, but there still is room for improvement. I expect Nikon to always be a top performer in the industry.

    Z6 — Many improvements over D600

Posted by Anonymous on March 2, 2020

I upgraded from a D600 to a Z6. I was surprised at how good and useful the EVF was. And very comfortable size and weight. Fits well in hand, not too heavy or too light. Excellent Nikon human engineering. Similar to D600 but many new features to learn. Focus stacking, silent mode, auto tracking, etc. F lens work well on Z6 but Z lens are better, in terms of size and sharpness. Very pleased with Z6.

    Upgraded autofocus is awesome!

Posted by MarcoATX on March 2, 2020

I loved my Z6 and I´m so glad I stayed loyal to Nikon since they keep giving us upgrades on the firmware and the new animal autofocus and improved tracking makes my z6 an even better camera. I own the Z6, Z7 and Z50 and I love the three of them and use them for different purposes. Highly recommend it!

    Excellent

I love the z6. It has been a pleasure to work with, especially in terms of it´s video capability. With Nikon´s firmware update #3 it is also clear that Nikon is committed to providing only the best possible for all users. The af ist incredible with 3d tracking in conjunction with the easy to use Interface and ergonomics. Game changer!!!
