    needs more work

i wish i had stayed with SONY. many features from the sony which made it fun to use and didnt have the focusing issue i have on the nikon using the same lenses... i will purchase a sony to do the things these nikons cant do. i dont like the battery charger either as there is no color designation or visual que that the battery is fully charged. meaning the light is always orange and doesnt turn green upon full charge and no scale giving a hint if the battery is quarter, half or nearly fully charged... im also getting a full battery drain when the camera is sitting for a day or two unused... i never had those issues to this extent as this pair of nikons...

Worth the Upgrade — Loving My Nikon Z5 II

Posted by Suzanne Launius on January 26, 2026

I recently upgraded from my Nikon D610 to the Nikon Z5 II, and what a wonderful difference! The image quality is immediately noticeable—my photos are incredibly sharp, clear, and full of detail. Autofocus feels faster and more accurate, and the overall shooting experience is smoother and more intuitive. This upgrade has truly reinvigorated my love for photography, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

My Z5 is perfectly imperfect for me

Posted by Jean Doucet on January 23, 2026

Just bought my second Nikon Z body, the original Z5. I bought it to be my travel camera body and second camera to my Z8 for concerts and event photography. I wanted it to be full frame and have the image quality that I am used to with my Nikon cameras. I have owned and enjoyed many Nikon bodies- the D40, D300s, D500, D750, Z6ii, Z8 and now the Z5.The lightweight body is the perfect overseas travel body. I pair it with my 28-75, along with the 35mm f/1.8 and the 50mm f/1.4 for a lightweight and powerful kit to get me the images I seek for travel. Z5 is lighter and smaller than my Z8, two SD memory slots and the great 24 MP sensor. For traveling to rural locations in Central and South America the small kit allows me to photograph what I like to shoot in a compact kit. Z5 disadvantages (what I miss out from not getting the Z5ii): the Expeed 6 processor and its AF are plenty enough for my use-case, especially when I use fast lenses. This will be a great FX Z body for typical overseas travel and perfect second camera for the concerts I photograph. I am very happy with mine. Well done, Nikon!

    Purolator Shipping Z5

Posted by Tarek on January 9, 2026

Not a review on the camera but customer service to date

Ordered 12/24 and first attempt by Purolator to deliver was Jan 7th. With bad weather and year end pushing deliveries to Vancouver. Now sitting at Purolator to pick up.

Immediately after sent Nikon promotional email to upgrade and of course an invitation to review...

Hoping the review of the actual camera and not customer service will be the polar opposite of the purchase experience. Should have bought locally in hindsight. My laziness cost me

A Fine FX Z Body for Travel!

Posted by Richard Hom on January 3, 2026

Just bought my second Nikon-refurbished Z5, only $459 during the recent refurb sale! My former Z5 proved to be a reliable, lightweight, and perfect overseas travel body. I traded it toward a Z6iii because my wife and I thought that our overseas travel days were over due to some physical issues. However, a year and a half of hard work at physical therapy and with the help of a personal trainer has allowed travel again. I took a Z50ii with its kit and Z12-28 lenses to Europe last year. While a lightweight kit, I can easily tell that the IQ is less than my past Z5 images. So I am a FX-only shooter now.Z5 advantages: lighter and smaller than my Z6iii, two SD memory slots for automatic backup, larger EVF than Z50ii, IBIS, great 24 MP sensor (I cannot tell Z5 images from those from my Z6iii using the same lenses), peace of mind - potential theft of an inexpensive body. For traveling to urban locations (e.g. Paris, Munich, Zurich, London, Luzern, Milan, Kyoto, Tokyo) the combination of a Z5 + Z 26mm and Z 40mm is very light, compact (some of the European airlines now have very strict weight and size restrictions for carry-on bags) and these lenses cover what I like to shoot. I substitute my Z 24-70 f/4 and Z 14-30 when traveling to places requiring a wider range of FLs. For domestic RV travel, the Z5 or Z6iii have my Z 24-70 f/2.8 mounted, along with a Z 70-180 f/2.8 and AF-S 300 PF w/FTZii & TC 1.4x for wildlife. Z5 disadvantages: I prefer to shoot AF-C using BBF and would like to see green focus confirmation like the camera does in AF-S mode (the internet "solutions" do not work, even with the latest v1.50 firmware), a minor quibble is that it would be great if the Z5 mode dial locked like the Z6iii.IMO, don't listen to AF speed complains, it is fine for travel purposes. Low-light focusing complaints, I don't have any because I use faster lenses. Reported RAW banding issues, not when shooting 12 bit RAW (I shoot RAW only), Thom Hogan has good advice on this subject.A wonderful FX Z body for typical overseas travel and most family events. I am very happy with mine.

    Amazing quality

Posted by Timothy Harding on October 16, 2025

I bought this camera/lens kit on 10/03/25 as my travel camera when I travel for work ( non professional photography related) my Z8 is to big and heavy for quick street photography that I do. I was amazed how sharp the image quality is and personally the Z5 is now my go to EDC over the Z8.. I’m not a professional I’m an advanced photographer and I don’t shoot videos but if you are a beginner or are looking for a smaller camera that’s budget friendly the Z5 with the 24-50mm lens is a great choice it’s very user friendly and has most of the features as the more expensive cameras. This is a great low light camera as well below are just how tack sharp this camera and lens is (I was hungry )

    Good but can be great

Posted by Afredette on September 10, 2025

The Nikon Z5 is a fast camera, good quality. I've honestly enjoyed it no matter the lens I have put on it. It does have a few flaws. One being its auto focus could definitely be better in my opinion, it does a lot of searching. Exposure and white balance do not match as shown on LCD screen while being outdoors. Over all this has been a good purchase.

Full frame, lighter, easy to use, with a USB cable to the Z5 I can charge the battery. Great camera !!

Posted by Gustavo C. on June 16, 2025

Exactly what I expected and more.I've been using Nikon cameras for over 30 years, my previous one being a D7500.I'm not a professional, but I enjoy taking photos of landscapes and family gatherings.I found the Z5 very easy to use; the controls follow the same logic as the D7500. With a 50mm 1.8 lens, I'm amazed by the brightness. I think switching from DX to full-frame format is the biggest step I've taken with this change.I'm recharging the battery by connecting a USB cable to the camera; it's a huge advantage for me; I don't have to travel with a battery charger. The Z5 is slightly lighter, and if I use the 24-50 zoom, the advantage in terms of weight and size is very significant.I highly recommend the Z5.
