Take beautiful photos and 4K Ultra HD videos of your travels with this high-end zoom camera that's not much larger than a smartphone. Cut glare and compose like a pro with its electronic viewfinder (EVF), or use the tilting touchscreen to find creative new angles, select focus and even take shots. A retractable 35x optical zoom NIKKOR lens with Lens Shift Vibration Reduction (VR) gives you steady super telephoto power in a compact design. In the rare cases when you need more reach, Dynamic Fine Zoom, an enhanced digital zoom, effectively doubles that reach up to 70x. Add advanced features like RAW shooting, P/S/A/M control, creative modes and filters and built-in Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth with the SnapBridge 2.5 app, and you've got an all-in-one camera that can do it all.

It's a great camera unless you drop it in the ocean like I did and it doesn't work anymore.

I Like the Camera

The price at $400 is a bit steep for my budget. I would highly consider this camera at $250 especially since it´s a point and shoot type camera. The one really nice thing it has going for it is a view finder which is missing from most budget point and shoot camera now a days. Bright sunlight will wash out the LCD Screen making the shot a guess. There are some accessories that you can put over the LCD Screen so you can shoot in bright sunlight, however, now you you have to carry extra accessories with you and I´m one for traveling light as possible. Overall, if Nikon were to drop the price I would highly consider the purchase. For the same price you can get a D3500 DSLR camera and with a little bit more money get some halfway decent lenses for it too. I also owned a D3500 and it does take phenomenal pictures too.

Coolpix A1000 now really ready
Posted by Henk on August 6, 2019
I bought the Nikon A1000 in Dec 2018 based on the published reviews to replace my Panasonic DMC-ZS60 which had trouble providing sharp focus across the images. Initially, the A1000 did that and then some. Images were quite a bit sharper than the ZS60 it replaces. It is not a D750/850, but then, it is not meant to be; try to stick one of those in your pocket!.
However, it did suffer quite a bit from hesitating when settings were changed and when using the RAW setting, especially when shooting sequences. I was advised by Nikon that they were working on a firmware update that should address the issues I reported.
After installing the new firmware, it appears that firmware Version 1.1 addresses these issues.
