    My overall go-to lens

Posted by Tony Perrone on August 4, 2022

In my FX format photos, I wanted sharpness at all ranges of focus; from 24mm through 120mm. I shoot landscapes at minimum aperture such as f/22. The depth of field sharpness that this lens gives me is incomparable.

    My Everyday Lens

Posted by Heyward Preacher on June 9, 2021

This lens is sharp and has great contrast. The zoom range is extremely useful for many landscapes, group photos, kids sports and travel shots.I am now in mys 60's and no longer have steady hands. The VR function is a Godsend that allows me to continue taking almost all photos handheld. If you have steady hands, the VR will give you about 3 stops of sharpness over a non-VR lens.Regarding optical distortion: Yes, there is visible barrel distortion on the edges of the frame when observed through the viewfinder. However, the image written to the memory card has this distortion automatically corrected by the camera. I am using a D610 and have updated the camera with the latest firmware AND lens distortion data. Updates are provided for your camera free of charge on this web site. Go to Software>Firmware Updates. (Unfortunately, this will not work automatically if shooting film. However, scans can be post-processed to correct distortion.) As a digital system, this lens produces excellent images on FX sensor cameras.I highly recommend this lens for FX-type DLSR's.

    My go-to lens

Posted by HTXPhoto on December 30, 2019

I´ve had this lens now for a few years and rarely remove it from my camera - from portrait / fitness work in studio, to landscape, city scape, and aerial work from helicopters - this lens does not disappoint.

Sharp and contrasty, but w-a-a-a-y-y-y too much distortion

Posted by SemperGrumpy on September 11, 2019

    The good:

    - constant f4
    - effective VR
    - useful zoom range
    - sharp and contrasty

    The ´´cons´´:

    - somewhat heavy
    - vignetting in corners even stopped down to f8 or more
    - shocking amount of distortion

I read several reviews of the lens, so... was expecting that there would be some distortion, but... good grief! Anything on the edges of the frame till 30% of the distance towards the center of the image suffers from an incredible amount of distortion. If one is expecting straight lines to be, well, straight, then, at 24mm the lens is almost unusable. It´s much better at 28mm but the distortion is still significant at 50mm and beyond..

    Great travel lens

    Posted by Chas50 on September 4, 2019

I bought the refurbished AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens direct from Nikon. It is just like new. I am not a professional landscape photographer and new to digital photography. I used to be a film photographer mainly shooting portrait. Now I am learning to shoot landscape. This lens has been reviewed by many experts and consumers as well, some very positive others negative. As for me, this lens is surprisingly good in optical performance. Yes there are some distortions, but nothing is perfect. Having said that, I am ready to give this lens 5 stars. Please look at the picture I have uploaded. The lens is giving me what I want.

From a non professional but I love photography 60ish year old person.

Posted by Hassyny on July 25, 2017

I bought this lens b/c if was offered with the Nikon 750 and I wanted a full frame camera. I wanted to take scenes, and stills, and family, and flowers. I really can´t tell you I knew what I was looking for when I bought it. I think it has been amazing. I have done wedding shots and showers and birthday parties...I have taken 1000s of photos with this lens and it has incredible reach, and range. I have so many scenes...none of these pictures by the way are edited...just jpegs off the camera.

    Sharp, but excessive vignetting

    Posted by Bob58310 on April 17, 2017

Bought the D750 kit which included this lens. The lens is supposed to be for full frame sensors, but there is so much vignetting in the corners, I question whether this lens should be listed as an FX lens.

If you were buying this lens separately, $1000 is a little much for so much vignetting. Would not recommend.

A Bit Skeptical At The Praise, But I´m A Believer

Posted by DennisB on January 25, 2017

For a number of years, my ´´carry around´´ lens has been the Nikkor 24-85 f2.8-f4. It´s served my purposes for both a D200, and now my D500 and D750. I´ve been reading the reviews from both the scribes and actual users, but was a bit hesitant to change over. I have no regrets at all. This lens is amazing. It has a lot of range, and while not a ´´low light´´ lens, works perfectly for my needs. I now carry it and my 70-200 f4 AF-S, and I´m covered for an entire day with a much lighter load.

The images are extremely sharp and contrasty, and while agree that the bokeh lacks a bit, I´m perfectly happy with this lens. One could do far worse in selecting an all round daily user lens.

    Beyond Expectations

Posted by Wesam on September 18, 2016

Irrespective of all the uneducated negative reviews out there, this lens is more than great.
It is sharp wide open and at both end of its focal lengths (24 and 120 mm)
The focus is fast and accurate.
This lens is being used by one of the world´s finest photographers and I can understand why.
