    Review

I was an early user of the Z5 and liked it, but the Z5ii is really what I like. The overall impact makes it a substantial upgrade.

The perfect move from a D750.

Posted by ADAM R. on August 27, 2025

Moved from a lifetime of DSLR's and most recently a D750 and could not be happier. This is the camera I was looking for that is a do it all for photographers. It is the right size to take everywhere and incredibly powerful. I have used it for action, wildlife, and landscape photography. The jump to Z mount lenses has also been incredible and I am taking better pictures than I ever have.

    It's Great!

Posted by RH on August 4, 2025

This gem is more than an update - it's a new generation of the Z5, which I have owned and enjoyed since 2021.The on-line reviews and comparisons will show/tell you what you need to know about focus, tracking, stabilization, frames-per-second, shooting modes, etc. But using the Z5 II is a pleasure! The weight, the balance, the grip and the control placements are amazing. One of my biggest surprises was when I realized I was shooting while wearing sun glasses. The viewfinder and monitor are brighter compared to the previous generation.A comment about customer service: when I registered the camera i received the redemption code for the training video. The code did not work at the Nikon on-line store. In frustration, I called Customer Service (calling any customer service is frustration) and the agent explained that the route to the video is via the Education tab.In conclusion, no complaints - just smiles and great photographs.

    Z5ii (SLM)

Posted by Tim Kilpert on August 4, 2025

This Z5ii is replacing my D800 and I'm totally blown away by the capabilities of the Z5ii. It's my first mirrorless from Nikon, and I am very happy I bought it with the 24-120/4 S lens, which is every bit as sharp as I was hoping it would be. The battery life is significantly shorter than that of a DSLR, as is to be expected. But my other Nikon EN-EL15 batteries work in the camera as well, so as not to be left stranded while out shooting. At home an ac adapter works great. I don't find I need the LCD screen on the top that the Z6 and others have. For the price and capabilities, it's an awesome deal.

    Great camera!

It's a great camera with a lot of great features. I haven't even had a chance to really delve deep into them, but so far it's been great!

    Small and powerful masterpiece

Posted by Andrew M. on July 22, 2025

I've upgraded to this model from Nikon z6ii and I'm very happy. I was considering going to z6iii but because majority of my work are stills I made decision to pick z5ii. This camera has exceptional low light autofocus and features that are simply outstanding. The best thing is that it costs less than z6iii!

Good camera but substandard customer service.

Posted by James K. on July 21, 2025

Good camera. I also own the Zf and the Z8. I would give it 5 stars but for Nikon’s customer service, which is lacking. (I also shoot with Canon, which has superior customer service.). Nikon sent me an email offering a free video tutorial on how to use the Z5ii. But I was unable to access the video without paying $29. Not exactly a great way of saying thanks for buying the camera.

    Awesome

Posted by Kevin A. on July 21, 2025

This is a major upgrade from my 5300. The learning curve is steep, but I am getting there. I can't wait to get up in my favorite places for wildlife.

Z5ll is a big upgrade from the old Z6.

Posted by Joe W on July 3, 2025

I had the Z6 for a few years after getting into the mirrorless world. It served me well and had taken some amazing shots but I felt the need to "upgrade". I ended up deciding on the Z5ll over the Z6lll and boy is it a huge upgrade from the old Z6. The autofocus alone is worth the money. The ergonomics are fantastic as it usually is with Nikon. The battery holds up pretty well to consistent shooting and the camera did a great job shooting in 90+ degree heat. I havent done any video with it yet but I am looking forward to it. With Nikons amazing lens lineup, I'm sure to enjoy the Z5ll for many years to come.
