Z fc

Purchased my Nikon ZFc kit a few weeks ago when the price dropped to $996.00. I like the camera because it's small, lightweight and easy to use and carry. The 16-50 f3.5-6.3 kit lens is light weight and I like the zoom range. I do have a few suggestions for Nikon, (1) add IBIS to the ZFc upgrade, because of the lack of IBIS all of the Nikkor DX lenses should have VR, (2) add the sensor cleaning feature, (3) add a way to save favorite settings. I also own a ZF and got the ZFc because I wanted a second body and the Zfc just made sense because the user interface is the same and switching bodies is easy.

I started my photography career way back in 1982 when I was in high school. I joined the yearbook staff as a photographer. My mom bought me a Nikon FM2 for Christmas and I was hooked. The Nikon Zfc is a return to those days way back when and a mixture of modern and basic. The look of the Zfc is amazing and easy to use. I just wished it had a motor drive grip like the early F models for an extra grip on the camera. The current price of $859 is a great deal and worth it. I plan on using the Zfc as a carry around camera on vacation and leave the Nikon Z7II and D810i n the bag. The buttons are conveniently placed in the same place of other Nikon cameras, so getting used to a routine is easy. The menu and settings are basically the same and that’s extremely helpful. This is a cropped sensor, which is no big deal, but I wished I could afford the full frame sensor. It’s really about the image right, so for candids and quick shots it’s perfect. I am also pleased with the video options. 4K will give me what I want for shooting videos and just using the Zfc as a dedicated video camera and using my Z7II for stills. I can’t wait to see what I get when I go on vacation this summer.

I love using this camera. Smaller and lighter than the Z f, I also have.I use the Nikon Z fc more often. I bought the all black version.

Love the feel of this camera, the size and weight are perfect. Takes me back 50 years.

This is the second Z Fc I have (I gifted my first pink one to my daughter). I love the versatility and the way to handle it. I am not a professional but I feel like one with the camera.

Shot the ZFC with the 28mm SE, 16-50, and finally the best: 50mm f/1.8 S for about 4 years. The 50 becomes a 75mm equivalent on APS-C. This sounds like a limitation but the prime lenses forced me to frame tighter and actually commit. Most of my best work came out of that constraint. I was seeing past what the 16-50 could do, so it was a natural lens evolution -> don’t skill your growth. Buy the lenses, learn the ZFC.I shoot black and white, mostly glass reflections where interior light and exterior environment stack on top of each other. The sensor has no business being this good for that. The attached photo has five tonal layers happening at once and nothing fell apart.Battery life is bad for all day work (3,000+ shots). Buy spares, although pricey. The retro dials aren’t a gimmick… they slow you down in a way that matters. Learn your exposure triangle. Ditch the automatic habit, ditch the lens zoom. Adjust the dials, move around.I’m planning to upgrade to the ZF because I can see the dynamic range I’m leaving on the table now. But that’s the point. This camera taught me to see it. I believe I can push my work harder on a Full Frame, but overall the ZFC has everything you need at an affordable price. Get one and shoot, have fun. The prime lenses carry over to the full frame if you ever feel like your eye is seeing past the camera. But don’t underestimate it -> there is so much you can do to continue improving.

Very light, fast and fun.

I chose this camera for its size (compact) and mirrorless tech. I have been using a Nikon D7200 for years so am accustomed to the menu options. I like the higher ISO capability and especially like the live view screen for composing an image from a low point of view. I mostly compose images through the viewfinder and do find it inconvenient to have to open the screen to check my work, but I'm learning to trust the camera more in a priority mode. I am using the Auto mode more than my D7200 and like the results. The compact size of the Z fc allows me to take it along more than a larger camera and I much prefer it to a phone camera.

The Nikon FM and FM2 were my favorite cameras of all time, and I have owned just about everything in the past 50 years. They were simple and reliable. This camera replicates some of that vibe.The standard lenses are too big and ugly. I own both the standard zoom and the 28mm SE. They need to be put on a serious diet. My other system is based on the Fujifilm X-T5 (my second favorite). Look at what they did with the "Fujicrons" and you will see what is possible. The "Zfc" scripting on the front just makes it look cheap. Overall, for me, I think that the design is about 80% satisfactory.
