Z 9

For being Nikon's first flagship mirrorless camera, I really have no major complaints. I know I have captured photos that simply would not have been possible without this camera, including the Z8 that I also own. To see more samples, visit robert g allen photography

As a wildlife photographer, I have a split verdict on my Z9. Performance is outstanding: the autofocus speed and subject tracking are excellent, and image quality is superb. I'd rate it 5/5 on that alone.Durability has been a different story. Over two years of shooting in conditions ranging from hot, dry, and dusty to cool and rainy, my unit had four failures: the LCD screen went dark and stopped responding, the lens mount bent and pulled away from the body (the camera was never dropped, and I carry it by a strap attached to the lens), the sensor shield was described by the Nikon repair technician as "melted," and the AF-ON button fell out. All four occurred after the warranty period had expired, and repairs cost me around $1,500 in total.This is one unit's experience, but for a flagship camera at this price, it fell short of what I expected. I rate durability 2/5, and because I depend on my gear working in the field, I weight it heavily, which brings my overall score to 2.5/5.

I had the Z8 and the Z7ii as a second body shooting sports. The Z7ii is great but I could tell it was nearing the end of it's life so I traded it in for the Z9. The Z9 is a heck of a lot easier to handle than the Z8 specially with long lenses (I shoot sports). Also I find the Z9 to be more responsive than the Z8. With both bodies, I definitely feel I have the best, most dependable duo while out in the field.

The Z9 is an absolute powerhouse—ditching the mechanical shutter entirely was a bold move by Nikon, but the stacked sensor performance and subject-detection autofocus completely justify it.

Right now it is the best snap and shoot I have ever owned.Still collecting articles on how best to set up and use as it should be.It is not as heavy as feared (arthritis) even with lens on .The controls are logical and reachable with small hands. The balance is good.I want to be able to capture local birds in flight and flying insects (dragon flies, etc). Can't wait until I get this all set up.Strictly an amateur. This camera is a great camera. I really don't have any complaints about it. I do think there are things Nikon has done that might be reconsidered in the future. When I purchased this camera it came with a battery charger, but that charger only has one battery slot. Other models I have purchased in the past provided chargers with the ability to charge two batteries, something very convenient for overnight charging. The batteries provided with the Z9 are excellent and have a very long life, but not having the option to charge two in one charging unit leaves something to be desired.

Excellent camera with all the pro functions you could expect. the only complaint I have is the USB-C port but that's not really a Nikon problem. I almost always shoot tethered, One of my z9's has already developed connectivity issues due to the weight of the cable resting on the USB-C port. Nikon is aware and provides a plastic adapter that solves the problem by holding the wire slack, but that makes it less portable and difficult to shoot while tethered and not on a tripod. This is a $750 + shipping problem to get resolved so use the plastic brace even though it's annoying and be careful with your cable.

Great camera all the way around! Works well with my older glass with the FTZII adaptor. So far there isn’t anything I don’t like.

Great camera with menus that are familiar with my Z8. The vertical grip with the larger battery are good for events that last several hours. The weight is considerable but is balanced when using longer lenses like the 70 - 200 f2.8 Z.
