    Great travel outfit

Size and weight make it a great system for travel or when a light kit is necessary. Similar to the Z6 in function, switching between the two is effortless. Great value.

    Love this camera

Posted by prsdeb on November 20, 2019

I´ve only had one day to go out and shoot with it but so far I can say it´s awesome. I own a couple Nikon DSLRs and numerous lenses but wanted something to just throw in the car so I always had a camera with me without lugging all the equipment. I bought the Z50 with the 16-50mm and 50-250mm lenses. Perfect for what I wanted. Lightweight and the two lenses pretty much covers it. I shoot a lot of wildlife and the extra reach of the DX format is why I went with the Z50. Was very happy with the focus tracking when shooting a bird in flight. Next purchase will be the FTZ adaptor so I can use my 200-500mm Nikkor. This may become my go to camera instead of the back up.

Love the Z50, but i´m an amateur and still have a great deal to learn about this camera. So far I´m happy with it.

    My first mirrorless camera

Posted by Jagdoctor on November 19, 2019

I´ve been shooting with Nikons since an F2 back in 66, and have several digital bodies now. I wanted a smaller camera to carry around every day. This one fits perfectly. With the 16-50 lens it is small and light. I´m getting used to the touch screen for shooting and the menus are pretty easy to understand. I´m waiting on a circular polarizer to do more landscape pictures, but for shooting indoors it has produced excellent results.

A Gem - So much going for it.

It´s light, small, comfortable to carry and to handle, extremely intuitive and ergonomic.
Once setup with BBF, it is actually more convenient to use than my similarly setup DSLRs.
High ISO is surprisingly good; but don´t expect to be able to take quality indoor Futsol photos at highest auto settings
Auto Focus works very well, and quickly.
It offers adaptability and functionality for inexperienced as well as experienced photographers.
    Color accuracy is excellent
With the adaptor, I can use my other Nikon lenses (although, as advertised, some lose auto-focus capacity).
Shooting in RAW provides more than adequate size files..
Being able to see exactly what you will get in the view finder or on the screen is reason enough to own a mirror-less camera
The kit lenses, while not fast, are adequate for most purposes, and provide good zoom range.
It is great fun to use.
Did I mention it is great fun to use.
It seems like a bargain to me for what it provides as a kit.
One may quibble about the battery capacity, or the pivoting screen that can get in the way for tripod use, or some missing professional capability. Get over it. Nikon is clearly trying to appeal to a very broad audience; and is largely successful. Nothing is perfect.
I´ve yet to use the movie capability or the blue tooth connectivity. To be honest, I do not care about either and will assume from the tech specification that the former, at least, is good. I have no idea how it compares to the competition; but then I couldn´t easily use my Nikkor lenses on them.
Incidentally, uploads unnecessarily crop and diminish quality of images and do neither them nor the camera justice. Have to wonder why Nikon allows this?

    So far 100% satisfied

    Posted by PC5150 on November 19, 2019

As a DX shooter with a D7500, a D5500, and 5 DX lenses including the 16-80 who sees my future as full frame Z, I have been looking for a “bridge” that will allow me to start enjoying the benefits of mirrorless, and start investing in full frame Z glass, while not throwing away and obsoleting my existing gear. This is exactly what I needed. This is a beautiful little camera that feels completely natural when you pick it up. The only thing to learn, at least to get started, was the new focus modes. My old glass works perfectly via FTZ, including eye AF. One of the best things is that my old glass often seems to perform better than before due to not having a separate AF module. My 70-200 2.8 VRII often had backfocus issues. I nearly cried when I tested it out on my cat close up, wide open. Anyway. The kit lenses are excellent and I would gladly take the 6.3 max aperture for the their tiny size. I was truly shocked how small the 16-50 was - about the same as the FTZ. I could always ask for more, but it´s all about the right features for the price and I think Nikon NAILED IT. Wonderful little camera.

A great product in a small package producing great images.
Small enough to put in your coat pocket and still be able to take great photographs.
Easy to hand hold with all of the same controls and picture quality as the Z6 and Z7.

    A Delightful Camera to Use

Posted by GoodStuff on November 19, 2019

I haven´t had much time to use the Z50, having just received it from BandH. But from what experience I have had indoors and out, I love the camera. I have had Nikon cameras both full frame and DX over the years beginning with the D100. Now the Nikon line has evolved into these mirrorless cameras that are a pleasure to use. The wonderful clarity of both monitor and viewfinder make taking pictures a delightful experience. The quick interchange of still and video photography, especially through the crystal clear viewfinder outdoors, opens a myriad of creative opportunities. The two sharp Z DX zoom lenses that are the Z50´s current companions provide a range of focal lengths that can be used in a wide variety of picture taking situations from wide landscape to close portrait (16-250mm). The collapsable 16-50mm lens on the Z50 makes for an easy carry around camera for still and video street shooting, almost as small as my old trusty P7800 but with a far better viewfinder and infinitely quicker recording speed. These Z DX lenses are also a welcome addition to my Z6. Finally, I really appreciate the touch screen monitor for quick access to the settings I need for the variety of lighting and exposure situations I encounter. The various settings are literally at my finger tips. Thankfully, for those like me who are budget conscious, Nikon has made this terrific picture taking tool (with lenses) relatively inexpensive.

A Very Good Replacement For My D5500

Posted by Franklin on November 19, 2019

I sold my Nikon D5500 and three lenses a year ago. I have missed having it since I sold it. About a dozen times I have thought that I would just get another one from one of the many offers Nikon has sent me in the last year. But I really wanted a mirrorless because I like EVF. I have only had the Z50 for a couple of weeks so I only have initial impressions at this time.

So far I find it to be an easy camera to use with good controls and touch screen. The body is very light. I have had to read the operation manual a couple of times to get all the intricacies of the focus system down. I use this along with a Z7. After taking about 100 shots I am happy with the results from the 16-50 lens. On my D5500 I had the latest P version 18-55 and that gave excellent results. The small 16-50 seems to be living up to the high standard from the 18-55.

I also put a 24-70 F4 full frame Z lens on this body and got really excellent results. And that is just like what I experienced when I had the D5500 and D750. The more expensive FX lenses worked really well on the smaller DX body.
