    Nikon Z5

Posted by Michael Emmons on April 30, 2023

I have been a long time Nikon user starting with the D50, then the D300. My Z5 purchase was quite the upgrade and I couldn't be happier. I was reluctant at first to move from the DX to the FX format. However, I am so impressed with the FX format that I immediately purchased a 50mm Nikkor lens to accompany my 24 - 200 kit lens. The advancements in technology are impressive and it didn't take me long to transition to the mirrorless camera from my old DSLR. Great job Nikon!

Very useful Z series camera, two slots inexpensive SD cards, excellet handling and performance

Posted by David Lewis on April 15, 2023

I am a long time user of Nikons starting with the F, then F2 and many models film and digital since. I also have Canon and Fujifilm and like all of them, but I really like the new Z series. I have two Zfc's and have used them extensively in travel. I can use my many DX and FX lenses as well as Leica and others. Recently I decided to buy the Z5 to make better use of my FX lenses and also the excellent Z 24-70 S lens that I've been using on my Zfcs. Currently I am photographing many church activities for which my SB800 and SB 700 speedlites work so well with the new Z5. Also I like the two SD slots that use the inexpensive SD cards I used in all my other digital cameras. I don't need the features that the more expensive express cards used on the Z6 and Z7 series. I expect the Z8 will probably use those cards so I decided to go for the Z5. Handling is outstanding and the menu is familiar from other Nikons. This is an excellent Nikon and is far better than one might imagine.

    Super Awesome Sauce

Posted by Davedawgg Davedawgg on April 10, 2023

I am new to Mirrorless full frame cameras and it is fairly easy to learn and takes fantastic photos ( of course it does its a Nikon DUH ) I bought it for a upcoming trip to Africa and wanted to familiarize myself with all the functions first and am having so much fun pushing buttons learning this camera. It is not too heavy even with a telephoto lense The 40mm lense is a good one to get for beginners it takes great shots very clear and is affordable Being new to all of this it was a surprise to see how much Z lenses are but I am sure it is worth every penny I have another one in cart on Amazon to get before trip so Ill have all bases covered in zoom range then all Ill need is a good macro lense and it should be good. I am glad I went with Nikon instead of the two other competitors - something drew me to it name for sure it has always been synonymous with high quality - affordability well one shouldn't expect cheap with high end products. You can get an adaptor to use the F lenses and that opens it up to many nice ones since the Z line is a bit short of them for now - I love the stability in the camera. I am notorious for taking blurry shots because I am just bad at it - this camera sure helps me YAY. - so far not many deleted I am practicing with moving objects ( AIrplanes ) and zoom to track and get good shots readying myself for a Safari in Tanzania next year.

    Great handling camera

Posted by Richard Shen on April 8, 2023

Fast camera and lens focus. Z lenses are phenomenal. Love the size and handling of the camera body being not big or too small for my hand. The extensive menu for customization may be overwhelming but if you work in a specific way, you can get it.

    Great camera ... but

Posted by saddle tramp saddle tramp on April 3, 2023

Overall, I have found the Z5 to be a fun, capable camera. Rated 4 instead of 5 stars because of the Live View monitor. I do Tabletop photography and had been bouncing my Godox SL-100D light off the ceiling . The Z5 does not do well under this lighting compared with any other camera I have used lately. I have now switched to using more direct lighting and the monitor works fine. I like the In camera effects and have found them useful

Entry level price with pro capabilities

Posted by Philip S on April 3, 2023

I recently purchased the Nikon Z5 kit with the 24-200mm lens and found the camera and lens to be a great combination. What I really like about the Z5 is the size and the shape of the grip. It makes for a smaller size camera that is easy to hold. I also like the dual SD card slots, the menu customizations modes, and the ability to create your own filters in camera. From my initial tests, the camera performs very well using high ISO setting and the autofocus is quick. The only downsides are the low burst rate, and 4K crop for video (which I don’t use much, since I prefer photos over video). So, if you’re an amateur / freelance photographer this package is a great value.

A More than Entry Level Camera!

Posted by Oscar Mcmillan on March 30, 2023

Coming from a mirrorless Sony Alpha APS-C camera, the z5 is far superior. Fantastic sharp viewfinder and great touch screen rear monitor. I shoot stills, mostly portraits, people and animal pictures. Not too concerned about video. The camera feels great to hold and all the controls are easily assessable. Got it with the excellent z 24-70 mm f/4 S lens (see attached photos) and have just ordered a z 85 mm f/1.8 S. Shoot in RAW and JPEG +and have used NX Studio post-processing app that is a free download from Nikon. Nice! Have not used in low light situations, but heard that the 1.4 firmware update (which I installed) improved low light focusing. I wish the camera could update new firmware via Snapbridge, but that is a minor gripe. Overall, extremely pleased with my first full frame Nikon!
