Soft Focus
Posted by MS on August 15, 2024
I bought this lens and did a test with the 70-200 f2.8 and the 70-180 was definitely not as sharp as the 70-200. The lens is also mostly plastic with a cheaper feel and the zooming happens outside of the lens unlike the 70-200 which moves the elements inside of the lens barrel. This lens is also not an S series lens and has a cheaper feel. Better to spend the extra money on the 70-200.

Compact versatility meets affordability!
Posted by John Parejo on May 11, 2024
Compact versatility meets affordability!Coming from the 70-200 E FL on my D850, it is a little soft @2.8, especially at 70mm & closer focusing distances. Stop down to F4 & it’s SHARP! 100mm onwards 2.8 is also sharp. The autofocus motor can be slow if WAY out, but if you’re even remotely close it’s FAST! It’s a keeper & the size & weight is literally half of the adapted lens. Win win.

Excellent lens for all kinds of photography.
Posted by Art Art on March 18, 2024
Super sharp and fast lens. Excellent for all kinds of photography. I used it for portrait, closeup, landscape, and event with ease and excellent results. I left it on my Z7ii, and mounted Z24-120mm/f4 on Z8 to cover all events photos. Super happy with both lenses. Saved money and space. Light weight for carrying around.

Very impressed with Z 70-180mm f/2.8 for action photography
Posted by Larry Dreyer on March 10, 2024
Wow, I'm impressed. I needed a midrange telephoto so I compared the Z 70-180mm f/2.8 with the Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S at a lacrosse match in the sleet. I alternated using the lenses on my Z8. My end result was I could see no differences in the quality of the photos between the 2 lenses. I actually found myself using the 70-180 more due to its lightweight and ease of use. And using my Z8 matrix metering with face detection enabled, I found the AF capability to be superb. I was so impressed, I bought the 70-180 yesterday. And I went to the local bike park to try it out. I've attached pics from both events. Nice job Nikon!
