Northern Lights come south to North Carolina. Love this lens!
Posted by Kenny George on May 13, 2024
I've had the lens for about a year and a half. It's my go-to lens for walking around, but this time, I used it for astrophotography. Having the 2.8 aperture in such a small and light package was perfect. Being able to shoot 4 seconds wide open at ISO3200 was a big advantage over the 14-30 f/4.0. Also, the weight of the 14-24 is just too much for a carry-around lens. When the Northern Lights came to North Carolina, I grabbed only this lens, my Z8 and the tripod. This was my first experience with mirrorless astrophotography. I'd used the D850, but the viewfinder was lacking. Using Starlight mode with this lens was great!

Unsung hero lens
Posted by Joost C on March 1, 2024
The versatility, usability and image quality of this lens keep amazing me. It must be the most underrecognized lens in the lineup. If you wonder about the numerous commenters online who can't get over how it's "not an S lens" or "just a Tamron design", I'm pretty sure it just translates to "I haven't tried this lens". I love it for wide shots, video (gimbal!), low light isituations, etc. I even use it as a video conferencing lens since it has a great minimal focus distance..And because I like overkill I guess :-)

Simply Excellent.

Can get enough of it. Excellent size and handles beautifully on my Z6 & Z5. Great to travel with and the the fact that is a zoom kinda prime lens it's a plus. Great for long exposures, super sharp, super wide and excellent build quality at a great price. 100% recommended.

Love it!
Posted by Brian Patton on December 5, 2023
I love this lens, period. Great size and handles beautifully on my Z5. Easy to transport and the internal zoom is a big plus for me. I use the 17-28 quite often for long exposures where it really shines. Personally I'm not comfortable carrying around super expensive gear (things happen). The 17-28, along with the 28-75 and 70-180, put me in a position of taking great photographs while not being scared to actually use them. Great build quality, though not as exceptional as the premium 2.8 trinity. This lens just gets out of your way and lets you enjoy photography.

Excellent paired with 24-200 for travel
Posted by Timothy George on November 17, 2023
Excellent paired with the 24-200 as a travel combo to cover wide to telephoto. Both take 67mm filters. Sharp, well built, compact.

Plenty wide on Full Frame
Posted by JOHN F WIEMER on July 31, 2023
I also looked at the 14-30 lens on my Z7 but this 17-28 seemed to fit the bill. Less in price and not as heavy. The 14-30 is an excellent lens but at the wider end (14 & 15) it seems to have a keystoning effect and even in the landscapes the straight trees would bend inward. If I needed wider, one could take two pano images and stitch the pano in Lightroom. This lens is plenty wide! No color fringing. Great lens.
