The Z mount 50mm f/1.8 S is a terrific lens and has elevated the idea of the standard nifty fifty.

    Ideal Prime Lens for Z-7

Posted by EEWdad on September 13, 2019

I have to admit I was reluctant to start with a fixed focal length lens when I bought the Z-7, but the 24-70 wasn´t available in its f2.8 form yet. Reflecting back, my first film camera had a 50mm and I learned much about photography using that lens -- and so I opted to begin using my Z-7with the 50mm 1.8. I am really happy I did this - this lens pairs well with the Z body and produces great results.

Using this lens required me to be more thoughtful when framing my subject and to adjust my distance to the subject rather than zoom -- but that is certainly a nit compared to the results you get.

What everyone else here describes in terms of sharpness and bokeh is what I´ve experienced as well. This is a great 50mm 1.8 lens.

    Great 50mm

Posted by Charley on September 12, 2019

This lens is fantastic! Very sharp, great colors and contrast. I own the 50mm 1.4 and 1.8 F mount for my D850, both good lens although the f/1.8 is sharper.

the Z Nikon 1.8 is better than both, easy to use at f/1.8

    Beautiful piece of glass

Posted by SLPphoto on September 12, 2019

For one of the first Z mount S lens primes, this little gem is awesome. Sharp, contrast, and color WOW! A staple focal length for all around shooting, this thing just rocks. Great focus and beautiful images come to life. If you get 1 prime for the Z cameras, grab this one. You will not regret it.

Paired with my Z7 the 50mm 1.8 produces very sharp images with pleasing bokeh. Very satisfied!

    Excellent Lens!

Posted by mountainview on September 12, 2019

I bought the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S because I wanted a compact and sharp standard lens that works well with my Nikon Z7. After having read the very positive reviews I had high expectations. I have to admit, I am impressed. I have worked with a lot of lenses and camera systems, but this lens delivers image quality that is well above its price class. It is not only that the images are tack sharp, practically from corner to corner, it is also the pleasing rendering and bokeh that got me. It may be a more expensive than a ´´normal´´ 50/1.8 but this is well worth the price. An excellent lens!

    Perfect complement to the Z7.

Simply the sharpest 50mm lense I have ever photographed with. Not just the center, but sharpness extends to the edge of the frame making it my new favorite lense.

    Amazingly Versatile Lens

Posted by KindImage on September 12, 2019

Are you looking to shoot in low light situations while keeping the image sharp? Portraits? Landscapes? Street photography? The 50mm seems to do it all! I have 2 other lenses that I´ve purchased for my Nikon Z6 (an 85mm and a 24-70mm), but time and time again I´ve found myself using the 50mm! I use this lens in most of the situations that I´ve come across without having to switch lenses. This lens is so versatile and amazing to use—it´s so quick and the images are so sharp. I love it.

    Yet Another Endorsement

As an amateur photographer, I defer to the analyses of other, more qualified testers. But I am indeed delighted with this lens.
