    The BEST camera EVER!

Posted by Kathy Gray on April 4, 2026

Purchased the d850 when it was on sale. I have a d850 already but at that price it was a no brainer to have as a back up. Nikon user all my life and the d850 is, bar none, the BEST DSLR out there. Wouldn't trade for anything! May even get a 3rd to have on standby! Also have the d500 which I love but the d850...???

    Still an Incredible Camera!

Posted by Anthony Harding on March 12, 2026

Sure, in some areas the Z lineup (Z8 & Z9) are superior, but there’s a reason why so many professionals still have a D850 in their bag and routinely use it. There’s a reason why users won’t give it up. I’ve had my D850 and MB-D18 grip for 3 years and never regretted buying one new for a single second. It’s a masterful camera with wonderful dynamic range, image quality is outstanding.. and it’s a reliable tank. I use mine all the time, in every weather condition and never once has it failed me, never once have I worried that I wouldn’t walk away with an excellent image. It is still a capable powerhouse and still worth considering adding to your bag even in 2026. Sure, the video can be wanting in comparison to the Z lineup (so if video is of great importance to you, the D850 might not be the camera you’re looking for), but I never use mine for that, so for me, that shortcoming is totally irrelevant. I will NEVER let go of my D850. For me, the only thing that can be frustrating at times is the backscreen resolution when shooting nightscapes (focusing on stars), but it’s still very manageable and I still walk away with tack sharp images of the Milky Way core. But, if you’re going to buy this camera DO NOT pair it with inferior glass so that’s something you need to keep in mind that you also need to invest in good glass if you don’t already have some. Nikon’s focus is the Z mount system so f mount (new) lens cost is something you do need to think hard about.. if that doesn’t matter to you the D850 is still an excellent competetive camera.

Love it, as my Nikon commitment continues since 1971. Perfect companion to my Z9.

    Beyond compare

Posted by Haydn B Eugene on March 6, 2026

This is by far, absolutely the best DSLR i have used, and i have owned many. Simply unsurpassed for landscape photography. My only dislike was shutter sound which i've always despised.

Still my choice as a professional in 2026.

No camera is perfect but the D850 comes very close. I can't image using anything else for my work.
