Technically very good camera, but....
I’ve been a Nikon crop user for around 10 years. I’ve gone from the D80 to the D90 to the D7200 and currently the D500. Always been very happy with the output, but time to go full frame. I was waiting the for the D850 successor to come out to take advantage of some non-current unit pricing. The D780 came out and with the Z technology I thought it would be a great start. The early exchange promotion was an extra push. I am very happy with the overall performance of the D780. So far, because of events being cancelled or postponed I’ve only been able to use it for birding matched with a Nilon 200-500 lens. Excellent results. Quality of shots is phenomenal. Crop as necessary. I give it 5 stars because technically it is a very good camera. My only negatives come from being a Nikon owner and the points listed. First, The Live View button is where the BBF is on all my previous models. I have lost shots because I thought I was going to focus and wound up in Live View. Next, the issue with no battery grip is turning out to be more of an issue than I thought. All my previous bodies have had a battery grip. I like the feel. I like the extra stability. If I move to a D850, it will be for the points listed above and nothing else.
