D500

I have had the camera in for repair to MAC already - and it´s back at it´s old tricks of focusing behind the subject or next to but not on the focal points. Very frustrating, I hope Nikon makes it right for me it´s costing me shots and unhappy customers. Using various lenses so it´s not the lens

I acquired the Nikon D500 in early 2017. My main discipline is ´´fast, eratic-moving, distant subject´´ photography and I expected I´d use this smaller D500 occasionally in the place of my trusty D4S for the added reach the crop-sensor offers. I didn´t expect it´d become my buddy, supplanting my smartphone as the ´´always with me camera.´´ The ability to customize the Fn buttons for various autofocus modes, the speed, the accuracy and tenacity of the autofocus the amazingly detailed and clean files- Just amazing. If you´re trying to catch an eratic-moving fleeting object in just about any light THIS IS YOU CAMERA. If you work in law enforcement and/ or surveillance, THIS IS YOUR CAMERA! It´s just that good. The 16-80 kit lens often bundled with it is also stellar. It´s light, sharp, extremely effective VR and offers a very useable range.

This is the ONLY camera I´ve had to-date that did exactly what I expected it to do... and more. AF is fast and locks-in superbly, and I´ve actually gotten shots (wildlife) that, using another camera, I would´ve missed... and that´s using the AF-S VR Nikkor 70-300mm lens. With the larger 200-500mm... simply amazing.

I´ve never been so excited about a camera in my life.

I´ve owned this camera for over a year now. I´ve taken many high-quality shots with it. Two items that Nikon customer service cannot address. First the histogram. It´s there in the preview mode but the camera will not display the histogram as shown on page 54 of the owner´s manual. Second, the camera loses viewfinder diopter focus in the vertical position. Maybe no big deal items, but something to check if you decide to buy this camera.

I have been photographing for wel, over fifty years. I have owned 35mm, medium and large format!
Still love my Nikon F5 but the D500 is the benchmark of cameras anywhere, anytime! Of course it took a long time for this camera to reach fruition, but it is fast accurate, a great value, and the single camera I would now rely on! I also admire the D7200 and others, but the D500 is the bombdiggity!

I would hold off on getting a D500 until they fix the connectivity to iOS products. I would not take Nikon´s word for it. Wait and see what owners have to say. The snapbridge does not work and the wifi does not work even after the ´´fix´´. It is disappointing to take a pic but not share or be able to download it. The firmware fix of 3/17 really did nothing. It still does not work.

Snapbridge will not work with Samsung S7 7.0. It has been like this for more than a month. Nikon support has no ETA for a fix. If Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are important look at other options.

The new D500 is the best DSLR I have had the pleasure to use as a photographic instrument! It has speed both in response and in frame rate; superior image quality; and great ergonomics. I love this camera.

I have used many different Nikon cameras bodies from entry level to professional (as well as other brands) for the past 5 years and this camera is by far one of the best I have ever used! It works excellent and performs in almost any environment as you would expect from a camera in this price range. It is a bargain when you consider the features inside this camera.
The image quality is stunning from the new 20.9mp sensor, the dynamic range, high ISO and color from this sensor will astound you!
There are so many features inside the camera that have been added that aren´t mentioned in reviews or product description that will surprise you.
There is only two things I would like to see better is the WIFI connection with the snapbridge technology but it does work just not from great distance. And the other is the battery life if you leave air plane mode on isn´t that good. But it is WAY better than any mirror-less camera out there. Also one thing to note is this camera will only work with Nikon brand batteries.

Those two things aside this camera is nothing short of amazing.
The build and grip is so nice to hold, best Nikon grip ever made.
I would really like to see this camera body used with FX sensors in the future.

Two words... BUY IT
