Excellent Lens
Posted by C2dRUSH on May 6, 2011
I bought this lens more than a year ago with the expectation to take macro shots of insects, flowers and other small natural objects. The results have been great with the 2.8 glass elements. Recently I´ve started using it as a portrait lens and now its use has grown two fold. As a portrait lens, the results are spectacular. Each week I place a new image of mine as my desktop wallpaper, and each week I have several colleagues dropping by to say ´´Wow! nice photo!´´ The depth of field in portrait shots is great.

Sharpest Lense in My Bag
Posted by Nikon 105mm Micro VR on May 1, 2011
I have taken close-ups, portraits, and landscape shots with this lens and it has performed well, especially when sharpness is critical. I would recommend this lens for anyone needing professionally sharp images.

ideal for medical /dental applications
Posted by drakhter on April 30, 2011
I have been using it for dental photography .
I find it to be one lense for intra oral as well as extra oral shots.
I conduct courses country wide on medical photography and presently writing a book on it -

This is a great lens!
Posted by NikonAm on April 22, 2011
This lens was recommended as a good close-up lens and a good lens for nature. I have found it is all of that and more. Clear and sharp whether shooting nature scenery, birds in flight, or flower petals. Excellent in low light as well!

Great macro, doubled as general tele lens.

I did a lot of reading online (including the customer reviews on BandH) on this lens, the Nikkor 60mm macro (no vr) and the Tamron 60mm and 90mm macro (also no vr) and tested the latter three lens in stores since no one carries the Nikkor 105MM macro vr. Tamron lens are good, as i like the Tamron 60mm a lot (f2.0) but when compared to the Nikkor lens side-by-side the Nikkor 60mm lens produces sharper images, and the Tamron 90mm is flimsy although legendary for its tack sharp images. There are no comparison in terms of quality and output. I decided to go with this Nikkor 105mm macro vr. So far i have used it for general photography (very nice bokeh for portrait). Took it with me to Asia for 2 weeks, and enjoyed using it indoor / low light condition but have to learn how to use the lens to maximize its potential as this is a specialty macro lens. It is what i expected in built quality and image output: solid built and tack sharp when focus correctly or as intended. The lens is a little heavy and big on the D90 and the auto focus, VR are more audible than other DX VR lens due to the size of this lens. Compared to other Nikon professional f2.8 lens, this is not as expensive although it´s a specialty macro lens.

Everything I´d Hoped For!
Posted by PainlessT on April 17, 2011
This lens is just incredible.. Very sharp with wonderful bokeh. Macro shots are stunning and makes shooting nature exhilarating! This lens is on my camera more than any of my other lenses. The VR isn´t as helpful on macro shots but is otherwise awesome and AF can hunt quite a bit sometimes in low light macro situations. All in all this a superb piece of glass and I would buy it again if I had to!
