Brilliant lens -- a must have

Excellent lens, especially for indoor shooting without a flash. Will cope with the most demanding of applications. Love it.

Perfect.

I had gotten this lens as a gift last year, and let me tell you it is wonderful. The light weight is nice but the quality is much better then it looks, the shots with this lens is amazing, as well as the sharpness and color. All in all a great lens to have on hand for those night shots you just can´t pass up.

Great inexpensive lens.
Wonderful low light photos. Not having to use flash makes for better candid shots. -

Excellent learner lens for D90
Posted by old joe on July 31, 2010
I chose this lens rather than the kit zoom lens because I will use it as my ´´normal´´ lens for people pictures and I wanted a fixed lens to simplify my learning experience on the D90
It has fine low light performance and is very sharp in normal lighting situations. -

Great first prime lens
Posted by D90 owner on July 31, 2010
I am very happy with the results of this lens. You have to LOOK for the light falloff at f/1.8 to even notice it. Extremely sharp pictures from f/2.8 and up. Very compact and light - great to walk around town with!
Only complaints would be that the focus ring is a little flimsy (I can rattle in in place without rotating it) and I wish there was a focus distance scale. I just like to know where it´s at before I turn the camera on. Also it´d be helpful for video since that´s currently manual focus only. -

Versatile Lens
Posted by Entry Level Matt on July 30, 2010
This is an outstanding lens (and definitely worth the $200US pricetag) only when it is working.
I´m not sure if I just got a lemon, but I have problems with the aperture fins sticking wide open. Even though the metering on my camera´s LED readout says the shot should come out well-exposed at higher apertures (i.e. f/ > 1.8), the stuck lens causes most photos to be extremely over-exposed.
I sent it back to Nikon repair and it was thoroughly cleaned, but the lens still sticks wide open. -

My favorite lens...
Posted by MakeBeauty on July 30, 2010
The 35 mm f1.8 was my 3rd lens, after the kit lens and the 55-200, and I use it almost all the time. It is so much sharper than the other lenses that I use it as long as I can. I´ll stitch together panoramas rather than use the wide end of the kit lens. And the lens focuses close enough that I can use it for flowers and insects.
It is not a macro lens, however, and cannot get right up into a bug´s face. And while it works as a portrait lens, it brings me in a little closer than people expect. Nonetheless, it really is the cheapest way to get professional quality light. -

Buy one

There is not one thing bad that I have to say about this lens. At 1.8 it starts out good and stays good. The price is right. If you have a DX camera I would buy it just to be in the bag, you will use this far more than you would believe. I have shot 20x30s using this and my D5000 at 1.8 and their is no problems.
