Many great uses for this versatile prime lens
Posted by Sailor on August 28, 2010
I bought my 35mm f/1.8 to take fairly close-up candids of a new baby in our family. I have since used it in many low light situations, like a church wedding this past weekend where I captured some fantastic images despite the dim interior illumination. It is also a great walk-around lens that on a DX format body captures natural looking perspectives. Nice and sharp, virtually silent focusing, light weight and relatively inexpensive: all winning attributes!

Flat out great lens
Posted by Nikon Prosumer on August 21, 2010
I´d forgotten how much sharper prime lenses are than zooms. After a long weekend of shooting with both a prosumer quality Nikon zoom, and this lens, I can tell you which one will be spending the lion´s share of time on my D90. Hands down, sharper. Also, working with a prime lens makes you think about composition and exposure a bit more, which can lead to some great images.

A worthy product -- for everyone
Posted by folsombob on August 18, 2010
My ONLY reservation in purchasing this lens is the DX limitation. I have only had one other DX, which means I can´t use it on my film cameras.
That said, this is a great buy that, in my opinion, underates the quality of the lens.
My primary use for it is college basketball games, shooting right under the basket and into the action. I typically use a 50mm F/1.4 and this one. On my D2X, I can cover half court and lower key zones more than adequately.
Because of the lower light conditions in which I am relegated to shoot, the F stops, in conjunction with higher ISO provides me with fast shutter speeds to stop the action.
Lightweight, small -- like the old days, and fast focusing -- another must for basketball.
You´ll find many uses, but I hope you will also enjoy shooting without a zoom, anticipating your composition before the action.
I don´t like the DX -- limiting, but I also wish they would stay away from the G, as well. I would like to use all of my lenses on all of my cameras, including my manual focus FM3A. -

Excellent upgrade to any kit lens
Posted by ClifB on August 10, 2010
Simple, light, cheap and with decent optical performance. This lens brings fast, creative photography to those without the money to buy hugely expensive professional lenses, which is its greatest achievement. It is usable wide open, with decent central sharpness and improves to very sharp when stopped down even to F2. By F2.8 the borders are better. It will easily outperform the kit lenses and allow low light shooting and creative use of depth of field. Very versatile as a standard lens on DX bodies. The only negative is some green and red fringing either side of the focal plane. Overall a bargain upgrade to DX users

I believe it should be part of every bag

Outstanding sharpness for the price. Allows one to utilize indoor shooting without flash yet capture the image without unrealistic iso.
May have to move to fill the frame but gain on the other end.
My general use lens. -

A must for DX bodies
Posted by dtodd on August 7, 2010
Simply put, I love this lens! Replace your ´´Kit´´ lens with this. The quality of picture is much sharper, great for indoor, portrait, or just to travel with. I´ve really enjoyed the 1.8 aperture for depth of field photography. Anyone looking to make their first lens purchase, you can´t go wrong with this one, and for $200 its very well priced. I use this on my D40 and couldn´t be happier

Existing light capability and more.
Posted by Pop on August 6, 2010
I purchased this lens because of it´s speed. Other Nikon lens I have are zoom lens, and as such are not fast lens and limit my ability in existing light situations. I am very pleased with this len´s capability to expand the number of existing light opportunities I have. However, I find myself leaving the lens on my camera and using it as a standard lens. It is small, light and very comfortable to use. I can move from sunlight to deep shade with out any concern for exposure limitations. I enjoy the expanded control of depth of field offered by this lens. I am very pleased with the quality of the image. This lens has my strong recommendation for anyone interested in expanding their capability in existing light situations, as well as better control of depth of field. Do not be surprised if you find yourself using this lens more often than you think. It is an excellent standard lens that preforms well in numerous situations.
