Most used lens on my D3100

Posted by nastanir on May 3, 2011

Best one I have. Sharp, high resolution, low light (f1.8) capability, manual override of auto focus, no movement of front lens, silent focus. Like a eye of a photographer. You can move around unnoticed with a light, silent ordinary camera which faithfully recording what you see and recording the way you want. My most used lens. I will confess though that my previous favorite was my Minolta 50mm/1.7 with Maxxum 3Xi although Nikon D3100 with this 35mm/1.7 is much more silent and DSLR increased the low light capability much more.

    Good Value, sharp,

Posted by EricL on April 27, 2011

The 35mm f/1.8 G is a great addition to any amateur or enthusiasts bag. It´s sharp, small, takes up little space in the bag. Minor issue flare shooting a sunset the other night, but was shooting into the setting sun and it cropped out. For the money, it´s hard to find a reason not to buy this lens.

    Excellent fast lens.

Purchased to use for low light photography indoors (preferably without flash). Am extremely happy with the results so far. Excellent quality/price ratio.

    Clear and Sharp

Posted by Roo on April 19, 2011

You don´t have to spend fist full of dollars to get a lens that is fast, quiet, sharp and clear. This 35mm lens will out perform any other competitor´s 35mm.

It will be even harder to find once people realize its performance.

Sharp as a tack and a steal at the price!

    Posted by cass_h on April 18, 2011

This lens is incredible! For a ridiculously low price you get a super sharp lens that reliably produces excellent images even in low light! This lens is on my D90 camera 90% of the time. If you own a DX camera, you need to add this wonderful lens to your camera bag!

    Wonderful and light for shooting

    Posted by 8Climbs on April 17, 2011

This is an extremely light and easy to use lens. Pictures are crisp and it works great in low-light. Tried it on my D7000 and D200. Love this lens.

Good performance at a reasonable price

Posted by Dave on April 17, 2011

    Pros:
    1. Performance for cost is excellent
    2. Nice that it has focus override
    3. low geometric distortion
    -

    Cons:
    1. pretty noticeable chromatic aberration (red/cyan) when used wide open. Close down to f2.5 to eliminate it.
    2. High f stops in my sample result in about a 1-stop underexposure.
    -

Summary: I´d buy it again in a heartbeat,as the negatives are easily dealt with with PP and attention to what f stop one is using.

Great lens for overall photography! Typically what is attached for most outings. Great for low-lighting, nature, and general portraiture. Definitely recommended!!
