Great lens, learned about it from Costco Kit

If you wnat a versatile lens, this is the one. You do not carry a lot of lens in your bag. Just this one does the enitre job.

    Very Versatile Lens

Posted by Architect on May 22, 2011

This is a do-almost-everything lens. I rarely change it for a more purpose-built lens, such as a macro or super wide angle. It does exhibit barrel and pincushion distortions at wide and telephoto settings, respectively, though, and the lens is very soft at the 135mm setting, which is a very useful length. I try to shoot only at F11 at that setting if I can. The distortions are easily corrected using Len Corrections in editing programs. It also works well with a short extension tube for near-macro shots.

THIS LENS IS THE GREATEST LENSE I HAVE!

Posted by photoman on May 19, 2011

I love the lense, sure it is slow on some settings but if you know how to photograph it is great! You and your camera can adjust to the shot, if you can´t no lense will work for you!

This is a great alround lens

Posted by photohappy on May 5, 2011

I love this lens because it allows me to take all kinds of shots easily without having to carry multiple lenses. I got it before leaving on an Asian vacation. I didn´t want to carry a ton of lenses
´´to get the perfect shot´´ of a once in a lifetime trip. This lens allowed me to take scenic, portrait, candid and sunset shots all with one lens. I wasn´t wasting time changing lenses and missing the shot.
I cannot recommend it enough !!!!!

    Dissapointed

Posted by Nikon Fan on May 1, 2011

Bought the lens for use with my D90, thought it would be a perfect all around lens, but have become very disenchanted with it. First I find that the lens does not work great with auto focus and also is very, very poor with low light. Not talking about poor light just low light. I spent a fair amount of time on a trip recently in a rain forest during the day, very difficult for the camera to respond during those trips.

Also there is an audible clicking noise that seems to take a second or two shooting with VR on, when it engages. The clicking is distinct enough to make me think the lens has problems. Warranty does not seem to cover this. Wish I had bought a different lens, or not bought this one at all. Additionally, images appear sharper with VR turned off than on, overall the images do not seem as sharp to me with this lens.

    Again, dissapointed.

Excellent stability and focus and resolution

Posted by dbm on April 30, 2011

This lens has enabled me to utilize my D200 with much better focus and stability than my 300mm without the stability feature, allowing me to enlarge with greater quality than the larger and heavier lens.

    Its on OK lens

Posted by HaimK on April 29, 2011

It is an ideal one-lens solution but its has problems.
The lens creep so the lens position does not hold.

I may go with another lens the next time

    Great walking-around lens

    Posted by Conrad2k on April 26, 2011

Perfect? No, not quite. I would like it to be faster, if the magicians at Nikon could make it f2.8 through the zoom range, that would be nice, but keep the price under US$1,000. I know, that´s a fantasy, and perhaps one that may come true someday. In the mean time, this lens is truly amazing for the price range. The only problem that I have found with it is that I have become reluctant to take it off the camera body. It is a general purpose workhorse. Sharp enough, fast enough, light enough - overall a great set of compromises on the part of the magicians at Nikon.

    Great all-around lens

Posted by Fizzle on April 26, 2011

Perfect lens for those just getting into photography. It allows for wide angle shots as well as moderate zoomed in shots. Having this flexibility in a single lens means no need to swap lenses, therefore preventing dust from entering the camera in addition to less weight to carry around. The VR works very well and is quick to kick in. Bokeh is nice and blurry.
