Dream Lens!
Posted by Jack P. on August 16, 2025
I recently rented this lens, and I was highly impressed with the low light performance. It also has super dreamy bokeh. Hope to buy my own when I finish college. Good job nikon.

A Low-Light Legend with Weighty Presence
Posted by Brian H. on August 11, 2025
Wow! Nikon engineers have out-done themselves. The Noct is basically night vision with swagger—its low-light performance and smooth bokeh are pure optical flex. Manual focus? Don't fear it at all! Surprisingly dialed, with a super long but precise throw and Nikon’s focus aids making it feel more intuitive than expected. The rendering is unmistakably Noct: rich, dimensional, and with that subtle micro-contrast that gear nerds like me love. Yes, it’s truly a chonky boy—heavy enough to double as a gym session—but it’s earned a permanent spot in my kit, and I'll never sell it! For deliberate shooting and signature look, it’s hands-down one of my favorite pieces of glass. :)

Expensive, but I don't regret buying it.

It is not my favorite focal length, but its qualities have made me exercise more and expand my horizons. Ive been using it for a year now. The results are extremely satisfying for the quality of sharpness and bokeh. It's a beauty. Very difficult to focus, but the Z6's focus aids like peaking highlights solve this, and you have to have a very steady hand, because your breathing already changes the focus. I hardly use a tripod, so I have to be careful. The quality of the construction is impressive, one of the best I've seen on a Nikkor and the electronic viewfinder and Noct logo are very elegant. The lens is not huge (it is for a 58mm!) but it weighs 2 kg! It seems to be made of lead! I don't know why the glass has such high specific weight. I need to move around a lot to photograph (one of the reasons I hate tripods) and the weight of it gets in the way. I don't trust the camera strap, so I use a Blackrapid connected to the lens tripod support (thankfully it has) to get around and even so I support the set inside a small Lowepro bag so it doesn't get hitting my leg. Special logistics for the use of the lens. Lastly: if you want to use f / 0.95, stay in the shadows or use a neutral density filter.
