    NO EXTERNAL BATTERY OPTION.

Posted by CLANEY on October 30, 2022

Flash is great I just REALLY miss the option for an external battery option. Yes, it recycles quickly but there are times when the AA’s are not enough. It’s disappointing that we can’t add a quantum battery to the flash any more.

High functioning flash for the Nikon Dxxxx DSLR

Posted by David Litvin on December 7, 2020

My trusty SB-600 died after 11 years of what would probably be called average use. I read the criticism in the review universe but went ahead and bought the SB-700. And, yes, the controls are too small and the output is not the same. The functioning, though, is right were you need it with perfect integration with my D7500. I hope it holds up as well as the SB-600. It gets only four stars because of the almost 80% increase in price.

    Amazing Speedlight

Posted by Brandon on June 7, 2018

Bought this speed light about 2 months ago and I use it for wedding and portrait photography. I use it on my D7200 and D500, and It has improved my photos a lot. Very glad that I decided to purchase this. This speed light paired with the Nikon 24-70mm (Non VR) is a fantastic combo, especially for wedding photography.

3rd dead flash after only medium-load daily use.

Posted by digitalsmear on May 31, 2018

Least reliable flash I´ve ever used.

I´ve been using this flash professionally, mainly for run-and-gun quick real estate photography. I shoot *max* 150 finished images in a day (average 50-100) for this work, spread out over a few properties per day and I rarely shoot much more frames than I use, and I´m using TTL for most images. So it´s not like I´m shooting hundreds of full power pops at high speed.

And yet, I´ve just burned out my 3rd flash in 2 years. This last one didn´t even make it a full 5 months! The previous one I sent in for repairs (good thing I bought that insurance), and it was so fried they just gave me a refund instead of fixing it.

I´m so disappointed. Nikon, step up your game!

Stuck in Zoom - No Warranty Support

Posted by Bert on June 17, 2017

First, let me say that I understand that my flash was out of warranty - by one month. The flash is stuck in ZOOM and when I returned it for replacement, with my receipt, acknowledging that the flash was one one month out of warranty, Nikon wanted $150 to ´´repair´´ it. Google the problem and this is a common problem. The flash shows no signs of wear. I have maybe 300 flashes with this unit. I have replaced the batteries maybe once or twice. This is poor customer service and leads me to believe that this is either a)poorly manufactured or b) poorly supported.

Looking for a new, non-nikon flash now. The problem is that you see far more positive reviews than negative reviews. I am confused, but not ready to buy another Nikon flash.

Make sure you carry a backup.

Posted by RogersPhoto on September 20, 2016

It´s a very good flash as far as exposure is concerned. The iTTL is great and much improved from earlier versions. The bad part it´s not the workhorse it should be for the price. I´ve had in in the shop at least 4 times for failure (typical of Nikon flashes). Capacitors blowing and just plain ´´dead´´. Not sure why this keeps happening. I´m not using a high voltage pack because the units recycle time is awesome with LIONs alone. I do not like the ´´creative lighting´´ OTC setup. You need line of sight for the flash to be triggered so they are basically useless for my type of Event work. Nikon dropped the ball because they should have integrated radio triggers into this line not infrared. I recommend getting this flash because when it works, it works well. HOWEVER if you are a PRO make sure you carry at least 1-2 backups (you should be doing that anyway). I sent my flash back in a couple of weeks ago and still haven´t received it back yet so I´m giving the service dept 2 stars.

    Breaks on its own

Posted by NickNYC on July 13, 2016

I am an experienced hobbyist. I have had many Nikon speedlights including three SB700s. One of them today made a loud pop and simply does not fire anymore. Its only three years old or so and not used all that often considering I have many others. There is no way for me to simply replace the bulb, so either I have to send it to Nikon or throw it away. Not cool for a $329.95 light.
