Go to DX lens for my D7200 in all conditiona
Posted by GEORGE HODGES on December 8, 2020
Picked this lens up ~2 years used. Hands down the best DX lens I've used on my Nikon DX. I mainly shoot landscapes and architecture. This lens excels in most any conditions.I have B+W filters on this lens and love the results with the circular polarizer. True colors and crisp details. Good in low light situations such as sunset/sunrise. I've been tempted to try the 18-300 zoom but I don't want to put this lens down for an all-in-one because the results can't be as good.

Love this lens!

After buying this lens I have sold all my other ´´walk-around´´ lenses. Sometimes I wish it had a touch more zoom but the quality of the images more than makes up for that.

Wow. Awesomely Impressive
Posted by PhotoHack on September 26, 2018
I waited a few months to give this lens an honest workout, and can sum it up concisely: WOW, it´s worth the investment.
I have several Nikon/Nikkor lenses and this blows them all away, even my primes. I actually used my (cheap) AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR 99% of the time for walking around, because it outperformed all my other lenses for most applications... but sadly I dropped it and broke the autofocus. Replacing that 18-55 with this AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR was literally a night-and-day improvement in picture quality. The lens is fast, great autofocus, great low-light, great VR, great bokeh.
If you´re looking for a good walking-around lens, I was very happy with the 18-55, and it is quite a bit lighter than this 16-80 (my small tripod now tips over with this 16-80 attached). But if your goal is image quality plus making your photos brilliant and artistic, this 16-80 is the one lens that´s actually worth the price of admission. -

AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR
Posted by Odehs on January 27, 2018
I have been needing a lens of this size to use in the field. I have been using Nikon equipment for over 10 years now. I have done everything from landscape to wedding photography and this lens is amazing. The size and weight are great but the glass and the sharpness of the images meets and exceeds my expectation. Good job Nikon.

Great investment

This lense works well and gives you extra zoom when needed. I use this for landscapes and portraits. I even used it for a wedding during the reception. Pictures came out great. Also great for nighttime pics.

Nice lens, poor support
Posted by SteveH on July 30, 2017
I bought this lens with the D500 almost a year ago and have been quite happy with its performance. It produces sharp images and with the 16-80mm (24-120mm with crop factor on DX body), it offers a large range of focal lengths in a compact, light configuration. Unfortunately, I recently noticed a small piece of debris on the center of inside front element of the lens. This did not seem to affect images. But still, it should not be there in a $1,100 lens. After calling Nikon I was lead to believe this would be covered by the warranty. After sending in the lens to Nikon Los Angeles at my expense ($30 shipping and insurance) I was informed that dust is not covered by the warranty and it would cost $421 to repair. I´m baffled as to how a piece of debris could travel past 16 elements (13 groups) and attach itself to the inside front element under normal usage. I would have to assume the piece of debris was in the lens since new. I feel Nikon should have repaired the lens under the warranty as this was more than just ´´dust´´ but a chunk of debris. In the future, should I ever purchase another Nikon product, I will consider buying Gray Market, since it appears the Nikon warranty is really not worth much. Might as well save some money from the start

An excellent everday lens for your DX camera
Posted by UVaFan420 on October 10, 2016
Bravo to Nikon for making better/faster glass for the DX range of cameras. For getting some great images, and carrying around daily, this lens offers a great zoom range, with some of Nikon´s better features (nano coating etc...). The build quality is better than the standard DX lenses, and offers a faster focus motor. The build does a great job of keeping it tough (for a lens) while keeping down the weight you will find with metal lenses. The picture quality is excellent (just check out the many sample images from users online). I bought this lens as part of the D500 kit.

Best Everyday DX Zoom Lens Ever
Posted by Scripps23 on August 19, 2016
This new zoom lens is very versatile, extremely sharp, and great in low light. It is now my go-to everyday lens for my Nikon DX camera bodies.

Great lens........but
Posted by Tamandal1205 on June 15, 2016
I love this lens on my D7100. It is small, comparatively, lightweight and sturdy. It is also very sharp. It does have distortion, but that can be corrected easily. My only issue, and the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is the zoom range that has 2.8 speed is very short. 16-22mm. I wish the body were a little bigger/wider so the 2.8 speed was longer, or better yet, constant throughout the zoom range.
Beyond that, I´m very happy and will use the lens as my everyday prime.
