    My D500

Posted by Scifo on December 28, 2022

This camera is all around and light weight. I own a D750 and D850 as well, but like to take this one out on day trips. I also use the D500 for indoor kickboxing in low light. I am very happy with the results. Thanks Nikon.

    A remarkable camera

Posted by JOHN COTE on June 23, 2022

I'm an amateur bird photographer and I got this camera primarily for its 10fps frame rate. It turns out that the D500 is remarkable: focus speed, clarity, etc. Coupled with the 500mm f5.6 PF lens, or a 200-500mm zoom lens, the picture quality is amazing. Highly recommended.

Not durable. Google ERR messages $$$$

Posted by Robert Villa on April 12, 2022

Google ERR messages. Quality at Nikon has gone WAY downhill. Just paid 250 bucks to have the shutter repaired on an absolutely babied 363 day old body. Might be time to dump all the nikon gear and go to a company still building high quality cameras they stand behind.

Still the best wildlife camera ever made

Posted by David William Johnson on February 15, 2022

I have used this camera for years. I know PROS who just bought two more of them in January 2022. Thom Hogan one of the most well known photographers in the world still rates this as easily the best for wildlife long distance. The D7500 is also a great camera, but the D500 is truly world class. This camera should be made in a mirrorless version soon!

Rock Solid Nature and Sports Camera!

Posted by G Ward on May 18, 2021

Was shooting with the D7000 and a point and shoot DSLR 5300. Both decent camera but then I jumped in headfirst into the Digital Mirrorless and that was fun, but now I am shooting a ton of sporting events, kids, Skiing and Cross Country Track, etc. Needed something faster with little to no buffer issues with great image quality and reliability, and this is for sure it! If you shoot Nature Photo's and Sports and even Portraits this is a decent do it all camera. Love the Dual Memory slots and how you can customize this camera to make it easier to use.

    Lucyboy

I jumped in on this camera when it came out. I think I bought it in 2015. It is such a great camera. I shoot theatre and weddings, and I love having a longer reach . My only problem with the camera is after 1100, the noise is a bit too much for me. If you are looking for a strong, super hard working camera, for the price, you will be pleased.

    What a sensor!

Posted by Skewed on February 23, 2020

After having limited success in photographing birds in flight with another brand, I bought the D500. As I usually do, I researched the camera and available wildlife lenses thoroughly before buying. Having used super-tele zooms that weighed nearly 5 pounds, I decided to sacrifice some reach and aperture for handling and $value. So I bought a Tamron 100-400 to use mostly hand-held. This combo exceeded my expectations!

I knew about the D500´s big buffer and FPS, but the speed and quietness of high-speed continuous shooting still impressed me, even on focus-priority. Obviously continuous focus worked well, since the mechanical shutter was cycling to its max.

Using manual settings of f/10 and 1/1000 second with auto ISO, I was very happy to see that ISO stayed below 500 even in overcast conditions. The resulting RAW images are quite amenable to PP; some require very little tweaking beyond the Lightroom defaults. A sensor that can capture that much light while focusing accurately on birds in flight is very impressive indeed!

Finally, I found that the controls, including back-button focus, are so easy to use that I just keep everything except for focus and ISO on manual. Thanks to Nikon for an excellent product.
