Excellent all around lens
Posted by KEITH on September 15, 2021
Excellent lens and great for all around use. As with all lenses, best performance is achieved by stopping down one stop or more from the widest aperture. The lens is a little heavy, but that should be expected for this range. Great close focusing capability- very sharp.

Very Versatile Indeed
Posted by MacroNut on March 28, 2020
Why only 4 stars? Because at the 300mm end, it has too much rectilinear distortion for use on architectural or other shots requiring straight lines to be straight. That problem goes almost entirely away at 200mm.
Otherwise, I can´t say anything bad about this lens, and I can say a lot of good things.
I especially like the 0.32X max. magnification ratio. One of my main photographic aims is close-up photography, and many times if I am carrying the D750/28-300 combo for more general photography, I can get some pretty good close-up shots as well. For example, shooting during a garden party ends up mixed with a goodly number of flower and pollinator shots as well. At the same magnification, it isn´t as good a close-up lens as my 200mm MicroNikkor, but it takes some careful snooping to find the differences; in other words, most people, almost all of the time, won´t notice.
The versatility is the main reason I have this lens. It is my one-and-only lens below 200mm in focal length (the others are the 200mm mentioned above, and 500mm phase-Fresnel telephoto) and it does all my ´´general´´ photography. It has yet to fail me in that regard (excepting the rectilinear issue noted above). -

AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR - an outstanding performer
Posted by CF-104 on August 31, 2019
This lens was originally purchased for my wife´s D7100. In the meantime, in the pursuit of excellence I purchased Nikon´s professional Lens Trinity, 14-24/2.8, 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8, which I have since sold upon transitioning into Nikon´s mirrorless market. Attached is a photograph taken with my D800 and the 28-300mm lens. In my opinion, this is as good as it gets. I am using the 28-300mm with my Z6 and the results are absolutely outstanding. Recently I have encountered three professional photographers that have the 28-300mm as part of their everyday kit. Two had D5´s and the other a D850; this speaks volumes about the outstanding performance of this lens.

WOW! Great all around FX to use on DX
Posted by MountainNate on May 11, 2019
I bought this great Nikkor 28-300 to use on my D7500 for wildlife , nature and as an around daily use lens.
I´m extremely impressed with the speed of focus, clarity, color quality and depth of field in my first few days of use. Looking forward to more great results as I get opportunities to shoot more photos and test it out on videos. -

Superb zoom lens!
Posted by Traindoc on March 23, 2019
Upgraded to the D 750 this year, which meant also upgrading my lenses to the FX format. This lens is truly superb! The details it captures along with vibrant colors is amazing! It is a great all in one lens, especially when traveling. You won´t be disappointed if you buy this lens!

Great Travel Lens
Posted by MikeMinneapolis on December 18, 2018
I was going on a trip to Iceland and having just received my new Z7 I though initially I´d bring the 24-70 S lens, but after some rethinking I went out and bought the 28-700 lens and I´m so glad I did - it really was the lens to take to Iceland - from getting city shots in Reykjavik to the vast wide landscapes on the South Shore this lens really covered all bases and captures some amazing images. Very versatile - it stays on my camera lot.

Amazing sharpness for so much versatility!
Posted by Klickin4 on November 25, 2017
I purchased this lens before a trip to Italy several years back. While in Venice I shot some great images in the fog along the Grand Canal from the back of a rocking boat at about 200mm. I had a gallery showing the next summer where a photographer asked if the shot was taken with an 8X10 view camera because he could clearly see each brick in the church! Yes, there´s a bit of distortion but Adobe Camera Raw eliminates that. The bokeh in my opinion isn´t great, but for travel, and not having to change lenses and risk dust on the sensor, it´s awesome!! I now use it in the studio for products and executive portraits with no reservations.

Great zoom lens
Posted by None on August 7, 2017
Been using this lens now a little over a month, it´s surprisingly fast to focus and light is very good. I have used it on both the D750 and D810 with excellent results, its quick focus got me a very good shot of a ground hog on the run at about 50-60 yds I thought I missed, 2 rabbits playing in my yard and an inquisitive chipmunk along with many birds. It may seem heavy to lug around especially on the 810, but the results are worthwhile.
