Small, light very easy to work with, dollar for dollar best nikon lens. On my D-300S it´s a 52.5 perfect carry-around every day lens

Great lens, wonderful value
Posted by Reuben on April 13, 2011
This lens lives on my D3000 almost all the time. You may have to do a little footwork to get your shots framed how you want, but the speed and flexibility this lens offers are well worth it.
I use it for low-light shots, poor-man´s macro shots with a set of close-up filters, and general walking around purposes. -

Great lens!
Posted by E on April 13, 2011
I use this lens with my D3100, and I love it! The autofocus is very fast, the images are very sharp, and the bokeh is nice and smooth.
Since I´ve gotten this lens I´ve rarely used my kit lens. I like the faster autofocus of this lens, as well as the sharper images it generates. And for blowing out the foreground/background, this lens rocks! I love highlighting my target by blurring the foreground/background.
The lens is very sharp, especially between f4-11, with some softness wide open.
I think my only complaint about this lens is that I have to walk around alot to zoom in/out. Yes I´m lazy! But that is not a knock against the lens, any prime lens makes you do the zooming with your feet.
I feel the 35mm focal length is a great all purpose length. No you wont´ get alot of reach out of it, but for most situations I find the length acceptable. I use mine mostly indoors taking pictures of family.
In low light this lens is very good, given it´s 1.8 maximum aperture. Just be aware opening up to 1.8 creates a shallow depth of field, and softens the image somewhat. But if you´re in dim lighting and don´t/won´t use a flash, this lens can gather enough light where the kit lens wouldn´t.
My favorito aspect of this lens is the incredible control over your depth of field, given it´s 1.8 maximum aperture. Open it up and get in close to your target, and watch that background blur oh so nicely.
So if you´re considering a fast prime lens, give this one a try, I think you´ll be happy you did. Remember, this lens is made for dx bodies, so if you´re a full frame fx shooter, look elsewhere. But I suspect fx shooters would already know that. -

Cost Effective

No need to spend so much money, this lens is awesome. Sharp photos, perfect for low lighting conditions. Small, makes my camera feel very light weight.

Very impressed with this lens for the money! Works great in low light (something I was looking for). Focuses fast. Takes great quality pictures.

I bought this lens not too long ago and love it! I love how small it is and so light weight too. It was a good price and I would recommend to get this lens!

Disappointing
Posted by Amateur Guy on April 13, 2011
I purchased the lens to lighten my D300 and to give me better low light performance. The D300 auto ISO is so effective that I never get the lens faster than 2.8. I´ve been so spoiled by my 18 - 200 Nikon lens that I found a 35 mm far too restrictive for my typical usage.

Must Have
Posted by Don on April 3, 2011
Purchased the 35 1.8 about a month ago and have been very pleased with the lens. I shoot it on my D300 and am not hesitant to shoot it wide open.
Sharp, contrasty, lightweight. I own several Nikon pro lens and this is a favorite.
Cannot be beat for $200. Get one and enjoy. -

Good lens, unbelievable for the price

You won´t find a better price / performance lens. It´s small, light, sharp, and bright. It lives on my D3100, only occasionally getting swapped for something wider or longer.
The only negative I find is it´s softer than I´d like at f/1.8, so I rarely shoot it that open. It typically lives at 2.8 and down to 4 if resolution is the priority over shallow DoF.
Focus is quick and fairly accurate, although again wide open it seems to miss a little more with such a narrow window to work with. It´s great for video too.
Buy it, then ask Nikon to make one just like it in 24mm!
