Impressive macro to explore a tiny world

Posted by Gordon Runkle on March 26, 2024

There are so many tiny details, and tiny critters, around us and the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S is an excellent choice for photographing them. The longer working distance helps to avoid spooking insects and is a definite advantage over shorter focal-length macro lenses. Autofocus works very well and manual focus is very precise. Very pleased with this lens.

    THe 105 mm Micro

Posted by JAMES KUDRNA on March 25, 2024

This 105 mm focal length is great for micro work. I use it in manual focus with a dual axis macro focusing rail with outstanding results. Coupled with either my Z9 or Z7II I have some amazing flower photography. The focal length allows you to have a more comfortable working distance than with the 50 micro. A superb Lens!

    slow to focus

This is a nice lens but is slow to focus. My Fujifilm 80mm f/2.8 is much faster.

Worlds within worlds with this lens...

Posted by Thomas Winternheimer on March 9, 2024

Stunning lens. Durable feel. The 105mm is a sweet spot focal length imo. Love taking shots of mirco-worlds and intricate details in nature. Makes them look and feel macro. The depth of field has a unique dimensional look and feel. Autofocus can have a tough time picking up on close-ups - that's when I use the focus ring to manually adjust. Packs a punch with the ol' Z6 II !

    Very Sharp Lens

Posted by George Tran on March 4, 2024

The lens is light and the photo is very sharp. The focus speed is very fast for macro photography. The AF motor is very quiet. The only reason I take one star off because the distance between the lens and the object must be at least 6 feet apart to get aperture at f2.8. I love Nikon lenses since 1982 and Nikon lenses are getting better in quality and performance.

    Incredible Macro Lens

Posted by Michael Rowan on February 23, 2024

After purchasing the NIKKOR Z MC 105/2.8 S and a Z8, I took them to a flower show and was very impressed with the quality of photographs. The lightweight lens focused without issue and took incredible photos even in less than perfect light. It is a huge step forward from its predecessor I used on my D4.

A fantastic lens that is making photography fun again!

Posted by Jeff Hartman on February 13, 2024

I have had the MC 105mm lens for just under two months, and absolutely love it! The sharpness is fantastic and the bokeh very pleasing. My last macro lens was a much used manual focus 55mm F-mount (yup, that old!) that I was using with a D60, but that ended when I stepped up to a Z6ii last year. I knew there would be a qualitative improvement, but had no idea it would be so dramatic. This lens is so much easier to use: it feels great in my hands, it integrates completely with the camera body, and the longer focal length means I can back away from the subject. Between the lens's vibration reduction and the Z6's internal VR, shots that would have needed at least a monopod can be hand held without blur. As we get beyond winter, I look forward to spending more time outdoors, exploring details that normally go unnoticed!
