I have this len for 2 years now, amazing result

Posted by Thomas on May 10, 2019

I am using this Len with my D800 camera, I capture great picture with my son baseball game and the is excellent, I am using the Len for taking video , I add a Nikon 2X adaptor with it and tripod it on a Manfrotto 545B, the video result is exceptional. I took a lot of video when my child have sport and music events, now I can stay way back from the stage and still capture wonderful images

    Outstanding Interior Low Light Lens

    Posted by Scripps23 on March 26, 2019

If you are looking for a medium telephoto, very low light, lens, this has to be among the best, if not the best. It´s use as an indoor theatrical lens is unparalleled. As you can see from the photo below, the lens´s sharpness and contrast, not to mention the background bokeh, are excellent in dark conditions, while still delivering a very low ISO of 280.

The tripod foot is the only flaw.

Posted by AllSportsPhotographer on September 26, 2018

This is a brilliant lens capable of taking pictures where no other lens can. It provides unsurpassed images. But the tripod handle and the lens hood need redesign. I know that the lens hood in the reversed positions determines how far the tripod foot / handle can protrude. But the mass / balance and shape of this lens require that the tripod foot be usable as a handle. No one´s fingers fit between the foot and the lens barrel. A RRS LCF-15 is needed to replace the stock foot. (And by the way, why don´t all Nikkor tripod feet have ARCA slots?)

Rapid Auto Focus, Amazingly Tack Sharp

Posted by YXD Soccer Photog on June 12, 2015

I use this with a D800. The speed of this lens makes it terrific for challenging light as in indoor sports and outdoor shade. It feels solid and has excellent ergonomics. Perfect focal length for playing field and gym. The auto focus is quick enough to instantly grab moving subjects and uses camera battery a little faster than one sees for smaller lenses so a second battery is sometimes needed for long shoots. Focus button on lens is handy. Images are astonishingly tack sharp. Despite its heft, it can be used hand-held in the right circumstances. Pleasingly soft background really makes the subject pop. I have encountered no ghosting when shooting toward light source. None of the reviews to date mentioned the superb case it comes with which is an important practical consideration for protecting and toting a large, valuable lens.

I have drooled over this lens since the very first version but never took the plunge until I reached the point of shooting almost entirely natural light images. I have all the high end zooms which I guess have their place but now I have the beautiful primes, the 24mm f/1.4, the 85mm f/1.4, and now the 200mm f/2.0. I have had the 600mm f/4.0 for a long time but that´s really for my wildlife endeavors. Of all the lenses I own or have ever owned if I could only have one lens for ever more it would be this 200mm. The images are unlike anything else. It´s so razor sharp at f/2.0 on a D810 that it blows my mind. And I´m a bit of a pixel peeper in that I like to shoot a person and be able to see my reflection in the pupil of their eye. No problem with this lens, even shooting them full length. Of course the backgrounds look like a Rembrandt painting all soft and artsy. And that makes the subject really grab your attention. I thought about buying a refurbished lens of an earlier version but I´m happy I didn´t. This thing focuses so fast you can easily keep up with someone dancing around using the back button focus method time after time nailing shot after shot. This is one of those lenses that you´ll use for the rest of your life. So the cost while high is not unreasonable when you calculate all the images you will produce with it. Really if you are reading this and giving serious consideration to purchasing it you already know what it is and you´re just looking for someone to give you the thumbs up before taking the plunge. So here it is, go ahead and buy it. I guarantee you after shooing with it just once or twice you will forget how much it cost.

    A well deserved ´Nikkor legend´

Posted by NikonNVa on June 23, 2012

I´m a very passionate and serious photo enthusiast with a great appreciation for quality and fine engineering. I purchased the 200 f2 VRII about 6 months ago, partially as an additional tool for shooting indoor sports, but I have to admit a lot of it had to do with the tremendous reputation this lens
(and the previous 200 f2 VRI) possesses. I have not been disappointed in the least. I own several other high-end Nikkor lenses to include the 300 f2.8 VR and the 500 f4 VRII, and this 200 f2 is fast becoming my ´favorite of favorites´. Image quality is stunning even when shot wide open at f2. I´ve found the lens to retain a very high quality when shooting with my Nikon teleconverters as well. A simply spectacular lens!

If could only have one lens -- This IS that lens

Posted by Nikonian 13 on February 18, 2012

I am not a pro, but rather a passionate ´photo junkie´ striving for pro like perfection in my images. Heavy, awkward, expensive, this lens is like medicine -- sometimes bitter or painful to take, but the end results -- priceless. Wide open, there isn´t a lens in my cabinet that can compete with this awesome marvel crafted by the Nikon brain thrust. Natural light, low light, moon light -- nothing escapes. And the images -- pro like. At least to my ´unqualified´ eyes. :)

    I HIGHLY recommend this lens.
