Hard to beat for the $$

Posted by Marlee on November 7, 2019

I bought this to get me started with my D610 a few months ago, and have been very impressed with most every shooting situation. In lower light it does hunt sometimes, and I kinda wish I would have sprung for the 1.4D or 1.4G, but I don´t anticipate this being my most often used lens. If you need a good general purpose lens that gets really great detail and pleasant background blur at larger apertures, this is a solid value. Even on my first use of it, without really knowing how to exploit my D610, I got some impressive results (relative to my previous results). It´s a safe bet to buy this because of its incredible price. Nikon really gives you a lot of bang for your buck with this one.

    One of my favorites!

Posted by Cateroo on April 22, 2018

I received this lens as a hand-me-down from a friend and even though I have newer lenses it has become my go-to lens. It´s fast and sharp and never lets me down.

    Un bijoux caché

Posted by Winny on February 11, 2018

Does not support auto focus with Nikon D5500

Posted by NewShooter on August 15, 2017

I was excited to get this lens and shoot, but I soon discovered that the auto focus function is NOT supported with my Nikon D5500. I had to extensively Google it, instead of seeing it and avoiding purchasing in the products specs. Disappointed, I wasted my time and money.

    incompatible

    Posted by D3100 on November 22, 2016

I found this lens was incompatible (for autofocus) with my Nikon D3100. Unfortunately, there is no information on the website to warn you about this; the specifications do not mention it. I am now faced with having to find a Nikon camera which is compatible with the lens! However, without any information about which models are compatible with this lens, I am stuck. I cannot comment on the kens because I have not been able to use it!

    Awesome lens

Posted by Orenco on September 30, 2016

All these af-d lenses are incredible! I bought several refurbished af-d lenses to use on my D500 and my F4 film camera. They´re so versitile for use on digital and film cameras. Light weight and sharp. Easy to pack. A real bargain. I´ve ordered a refurbished Nikon f6. I´ve never received a bad refurbished product from Nikon.

Good value, but difficult to use on a D3300

Posted by NewtoNikon on May 3, 2016

I purchased this lens knowing I would only be able to manually focus with it attached to my D3300 camera body. When I have been successful in taking good pictures, they have been beautiful. However, the majority of my pictures are very blurry - despite them sometimes looking decent on my camera´s LCD screen. That is the frustrating part - sometimes they do look good on my lcd screen but then I review them on a larger screen, and they are blurry. I bought the lens refurbished, and I´d definitely do that again - Nikon USA brings the lens up to manufacturer´s specs. However, per Nikon USA, you only have 14 days to return an unopened product. I did not expect to encounter the level of difficulty I have in using the manual focus, and on Day 16 from the date of purchase, I was hoping I would still be able to return the product due to my lack of satisfaction. I do somewhat understand Nikon USA´s policy, but at the same time, we´ve already spent a lot of money on their products. I would have probably bit the bullet, returned the lens, and come back later when we were able to spend more and get a comparable lens that would autofocus on my camera. Some told me I could rely on the focus indicator light inside the viewfinder to help me focus, and I even saw that information in multiple places online. That is not true - you only have your eyes with this lens. I´m not sure if I will ever be able to totally catch up and properly manually focus with this lens when I am using it on my camera, so that worries me. I´ve even had still pictures of inanimate objects turn blurry. I know it is user error; I just don´t know if my human capabilities will ever be superb enough. The lens was advertised as compatible with my camera. Better photographers have told me this is difficult. If we ever get another prime lens, I think I will go with a 35mm that can autofocus. For now, I will keep practicing with this one. I am giving it three stars because it is capable of achieving beautiful pictures, but if you have camera body without a motor, it is going to be difficult to use - I wish Nikon had some kind of policy regarding customer satisfaction. I really love their products so far, except for this. I would recommend this lens, of course, if your camera has a motor to make it capable of autofocus.

    Great lens

Posted by roosevelt on March 27, 2016

I just received this lens and the reviews I read made me buy it. This lens is just what people acclaimed it is exceptional. Love it close ups, portraits and general uses, love it.
