    Lithium ION Battery Pack EN-EL5 3.7V 1100mAh 4.1 Wh

Posted by NIKONAM on January 25, 2018

Like many other low rated reviews, both of my EN-EL5 batteries have now experienced bulging in center of battery, making it very difficult to remove from camera. I worry if the battery is even safe to recharge and use. I have searched high and low for Nikon brand replacement battery, with no luck. I hate to think I will need to buy a new camera, because of bad batteries.

    defective battery

Posted by katman on June 1, 2017

Had the same issue as another reviewer. I used my camera for 2 vacations last year then stored it with a fully charged battery in my closet for a few months. Pulled it out for the next trip only to find the battery, not only dead, but stuck in the camera. Had to use needle nose pliers to remove it and found that it had swollen in the center.

I contacted Nikon and was glad to hear that if i dropped by their office, they would exchange the battery for a new one.

    This Battery has been Great

Posted by NotaPro on August 14, 2016

I am still using the original Battery that came with my Coolpix P90 that I bought 6/28/09 and it still holds a charge as well as when I first bought the Camera. I don´t use the Camera that much, but I do occasionally remove the Battery and bring it up to full charge. I have read the other posts about the Battery swelling in the middle, but knock on wood so far no problems with this one.

    Battery expanded in the middle

Posted by atrast on November 18, 2015

My camera went dead this week and it occurred to me that the battery needed changing. However, when I tried to remove the battery, I discovered that it would not come out. With great difficulty, I was finally able to get it out and discovered the reason for the difficulty--it had expanded in the middle making it too tight to be removed. What I would like to know is if there is a possibility that it damaged by camera. Will Nikon replace the battery or do I have to buy a replacement? If I have to buy one, what do I get?

    Batteries Expanded

Posted by XOutBatt on February 8, 2015

In P510, purchased Nov. 2012, both batteries (original with camera, spare purchased same time) have expanded, bulging in the middle. Very difficult to remove them from camera. Charger indicates they still recharge, but will see how long charge lasts. Not a lot of photos taken with either battery. Battery should (1) last longer with minimal photos taken and (2) definitely not expand, indicating an internal failure.

    Battery expanded

Posted by NikonVin on June 17, 2014

I tried to change my battery and it had expanded, bulging in the middle, and was difficult to extract from the camera. It is now useless. Luckily I have a spare, but will have to buy another spare for future use

    Poor life span

Posted by bluemugget on June 2, 2014

This is one of the worst batteries I´ve ever owned. It really doesn´t last long at all. Had I known this beforehand, I would not have bought the camera. I should have stuck with Canon!

    Nikon EN-EL5 rechargeable battery

    Posted by pawhite524 on November 21, 2011

I have had excellent results from this battery- lasts as long as expected when shooting, holds charge well when not in use, no ´´memory´´ problems. I use this with my P5100 and my P100. Through the NY internet Photo stores have found OEM and aftermarket spare batteries for $20.00-$26.00. Even at MSRP it´s a fair price. I like that the charger is external so I can use the cameras while recharging a spare.
